Is this an original Bird?

I came across Firebird and was wondering if this is original? It says it is a Coo-Choo custom from back in the day. Did Choo-Choo do this? If so would this be considered a factory original? Kinda like the ASC verts. Regardless I think the outside is a really cool look. Not to fond of the gold interior trim.

Not sure of history but it's kind of neat looking imo, minus the interior. Rare or not though, that's a ton of money for not much car as it's still a basic firebird underneath the stick on stuff.

Original, in that new firebird cars were sent to ChooChoo for conversions, like the conversion van industry.

No ties like the ASC cars, where Camaros were built under contract, and firebirds through drop ship using the same parts.
More like the conversion van industry, which ChooChoo was heavily involved.

Those were never taken seriously when new. Not sure if anyone likes them now.

You used to see their vans everywhere. I have seen a few El Camino's done by them also but this is the first Firebird I have seen. Were alot of these base birds converted or was this just a few done as I can't recall ever seeing one around back many moons ago. There was actually a huge Choo-Choo factory here in FL yrs back.

I've saw El Caminos and Camaros they've done. Yea they sure made an ugly car uglier with that ugly bird. Gosh!

Yes, that looks like a Choo Choo Customs car... Most of the Bandit II cars were 91/92, but I have seen a few earlier cars... I wish they would have done something to the engine...

Yea, a friend of mine has a black ttop 89 Bandit II #13 of 500 on the dash plaque and it has the same base TBI 305 as my base 89 Firebird. It has a ton of pinstriping, special wheels, embroidered seats, stick on hood shaker and aluminum dash trim, but no horsepower!

Choo-Choo was never about messing with engines just cosmetic dress up stuff. It would have been nice if Pontiac would have sent them TPI cars. So if 500 were converted each year would this be considered rare?

Re: Is this an original Bird?

Rare does not always mean desirable.

Choo Choo would , like conversion vans and trucks, would have been. Sent to their bailment lot where they were converters and sold to dealers.

Bailment vehicles are sold to dealers as “extra inventory “ and because they get an added sales card, that’s why many take them. It wasn’t because they sold great. It was because the dealer gets an extra GM sales card/unit. This is still the case today w lifted trucks and conversion vans.

Or valuable either.

Thanks for the bailment info Big. I always wondered how the dealers are able to convert a vehicle and still sell as new.

Re: Is this an original Bird?

I always have viewed these cars as more of a 'Joe Bob's Hotroddin' and Supercar Emporium' product than anything of any true value. Here's Chugga-Chugga Custom's attempt to cash in on that movie all you crazy kids loved. By taking a brand new, entry level, no-frills Firebird, and dorking it out to look sort-of-but-not-really, like that gaudy, dated 70's disco Trans Am. Oh cool! What's it got? A stick on hood scoop, embroidered headrests, a chicken on the hood, and some tacky JCWhitney catalog ground effects that are ugly, and serve no functional purpose. Act now and we'll throw in these stylish custom racing wheels, that we found in the back of the 1985 Sears catalog. And we got a hella good deal on them too, because they're only 15's and all the cool kids these days want 16's! They'd look right at home on your boat trailer, but now you can have them on this fakey wannabe, limited edition, not-really-a-Trans Am! Now isn't that worth a measly price increase over that base Firebird you really don't want, because you wanted the Trans Am? You know this car is special, because it has a brass plaque on the dash that says so!

Idk, maybe it's just me...
