History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
Can't find numbers for how many 5.7 formulas were made. If there were 12000 total GTA ta and formula 5.7 built and 6800 of them were GTA hard tops. That only leaves about 6000 formula ta and t top gta's left. Most of them I would think to be ta and GTA t top. So 1 or 2k formula should be it. I gotta g92 car with 103k factory Maui blue. I'm working to semi restore. Vin is a 5.7. it's ws6 with 3.27 be disk rear. Hard top low option. Factory engine and harness gone. Seats carpet console all gone. No rpo codes. I will need slots help
That would be an option combination, W66 + L98 or W66 + B2L. GM never kept track of combinations. That leaves you options like Compnine or other such services that crosscheck an archive of invoice data. Put simply, you're getting a calculated "best guess", if anything. You could make up a random number and it'd have as much truth as a number from the next guy.
FYI - According to Robert Casey's book "Pontiac Firebird Colors, Codes and Quantities" 2613 L98 Formula's were made and
2846 total (both L98 & LB9) silver-blue Formulas were built. The book also states G92 was available ONLY on the Trans Am
with the LB9 engine and 5 speed trans in 1988 and only 31 units were built
The 9 bolt be with disk brakes has a factory tag that says 3.27 on it. I've not taken the cover off to count or looked at the production stamp. But it's not been changed out. All the bolts and lines haven't been messed with. It's definitely a factory installed. The car only has 103000 miles on it. Any chance they skipped one by?
Here is my 1988 Formula 350 SPID tag - my car has manual windows and mirrors but does have A/C and cruise control
my car has same. My car also had trans am style rim's on it. Not the 20 slots with the rivets. I don't get why someone would put a aggressive rear end in it if it already had a posi in it then take complete interior out. Then put a 80 model 305 carbureted engines in place of the factory 5.7

Sorry, but your car can't have G92 if it's an 88 Formula, it's as simple as that.....3.27 (GW6) was included on all 88 Formula 350's to the best of my knowledge.
How reliable is the author of the book? I'd like to get one if it's a good source. Thanks for the info. I'm not trying to be a butt head. It's sad what some people do to these cars.

IMO, the book is highly accurate and the author is a member here.
I recommend picking one up, you can get it on Amazon. I reference mine a lot - good luck

Actually GM DID keep track of the number of Formulas that had the 350, and the number of Trans Ams with the 350, and the number of GTA's with the 350 in 1988... I have the actual Log from GM

lol
Some years, you are absolutely correct, they no longer exist or they never did...
I have generic logs for 82-85 and 87... But detailed logs for 86, 88-90...

It also gives better more accurate descriptions of the RPOs and what they mean...
Car has been repainted at some point. You can see the factory blue in the engine compartment. I've got front clip off. Going to get the doors and hatch off to.
