True 1989 IROC-Z? NO Z28 RPO?

Hey guys, having a bit of an existential crisis right now;

My 1989 Camaro (hopefully IROC-Z) seems to be a bit of a odd basket of RPO codes. I am from Canada, so I know there was some weird dealership orders going on for these cars up here past the border, but this just seems odd. I have another 1989 IROC-Z, with the true Z28 RPO code that verifies its authenticity, but this one lacks that code as well. I saw a thread from another member made all the way back in 2006 that showed a dealership specific 1989 IROC-Z that lacked the rpo's for it due to it being a special order, maybe this is the same case? The 8th VIN spot is an E, which for this model year could designate an RS, or an IROC-Z. All of the badges when I purchased it were there, saying IROC-Z. It also has the Wonderbar, and a 9 bolt rear end, just like my other one. Here are my RPO's, if anyone wants to try and help me out here.

AM9, AR9. AU3, A01, A31, A90, B18, B34, B35, B48, B84, CC1, CD4, C49. C60, DC4, DX3, D27, D35. D42. D6D, D80, E5Z, E7Z, E9Z, FE1, GU2, IP2, J50, K34, K60, L03, MD8, MX0, NB2, NK3, N33, N90, QPH, R6C, TR9, TT4, UA1, UB3, UQ1, UX1, U25, U26, U29, U79, VAN, VG8, VK3, V73, WW8, W62, YA7, YF5, 1AY, 1SD, 1SZ, 16P, 6XU, 7XU, 72I, 722, 729, 81Q, 81U, 8UY, 9UY

Thanks, Ryan

Does is have the decals? Because it looks to have stripe and decal delete DX3.. I believe RS Camaros all had DX3.

All 89 Z's were TPI weren't they? Smells like you have an RS, but apparently at least one with an LS haha. Where abouts in Canada are you from?

Re: True 1989 IROC-Z? NO Z28 RPO?

I’m leaning towards a fully loaded RS..

I’m assuming someone might have swapped the interior badge to say Z28/IROC-Z, swapped the RS steering wheel, and swapped the rocker/bumper emblems.

If it has the decals that would be a giveaway because this is a decal delete car.

I also assume most people ordering IROCs with the decal delete would want the car to be a sleeper, so they’d get the TPI 350 or G92 LB9 5-speed TPI and order the stripe delete to have a “sleeper”.

It wouldn’t make sense to me to order the 170hp motor and the stripe delete and be completely indistinguishable from an RS externally or under the hood.

You could get the 170hp 305 in 89 on an IROC, but I’m assuming no one would get that option AND the stripe/decal delete.

It would be strange to fully load a Z but lack with the power dept. It's tough to tell on my screen, but if the car in question is the one in his profile pic, those headlight buckets look colour matched

Re: True 1989 IROC-Z? NO Z28 RPO?

It's an RS. The "Base" Iroc in 88-89 was barely an Iroc, but it still would have had the FE2 suspension. FE1 was pretty much reserved for base model cars, with F41 being in the middle.
GU2 is also a 10 bolt 2.73 ratio.

The only gotcha to watch for is that the VIN on the SPID matches the VIN of the car, since console armrests are often changed you can get a SPID from another car pretty easily.

I'm from Vancouver Island, farthest west you can go. The sad part about this whole thing is my parts car was a loaded L98 car that had been beefed with a high-flo intake, Edelbrock RPM Performer heads, and a ***** Thumpr Cam. Both the cars have 3" headed into a hushthrush, and then out of dual 3.5" chrome tips. I can live with it being an RS, but as far as we're all concerned my badges are authentic... lol. Thanks guys.

Re: True 1989 IROC-Z? NO Z28 RPO?

I will make a post on this thread with all of the weird stuff on this car when I am back from school. I am 17 and nearly work full time, I haven't had much time to investigate this. I am doing a 67 Nova 2Dr Post and I just finished my LS swap on the "IROC", but this is very strange. The story behind the car is too, but we'll talk about that later.

You live in a beautiful place...spent a couple of days in Nanaimo a few years ago...I'd made the mistake of not allowing for extremely heavy ferry traffic for BC Day, and spent most of one of those days at the Duke Point ferry terminal, trying to get back to Tsawwassen, because I had work to do in Blaine at the Peace Arch that Monday.

QPH is 215/65-15, not 245/50-16. Almost had me wondering there. If the car doesn't have Z28, then it isn't a Z28 (IROC-Z)

I know in 88-90 the IROC could be had with 15" or 16" wheels... Did the FE2 come with the 15" Wheels too? Or was that F41? I am just asking

That was a mistake.. yeah, 15” wheels with those tires doesn’t make sense..
