VIN decoder Question
I put my VIN in the decoder and it came back Sport Coupe, Z28 and I understand that it will be either of the two. But was IROC one of the possibilities as well or does the Z28 refer to an IROC.
As far as the VIN decoder is concerned Iroc was an option on Z28's, and was basically the same thing. The Camaro VIN's all come back sport coupe/Z28 unless the VIN is from a berlinetta.

the vin comes back as sport coupe, z28. to determine an iroc, you have to dig up your rpo codes, and look for option code B4Z.
B4Z is the iroc package.
B4Z is the iroc package.
Not always... B4Z was the code to add Iroc to a Z28 from 85-87. In 1988 when the Iroc replaced the Z28 the rpo for the Iroc package was Z28. No B4Z code was needed since all Z28's were Iroc's and viceversa.

Just to clarify...
Every 1985-1987 IrocZ will have Z28 and B4Z on the SPID.
Any 1988-1990 IrocZ will only have the Z28 RPO on the SPID.
The reason is that from 1985-1987 the IrocZ package was an option on top of the Z28 option. From 1988-1990 the Z28 came standard with IrocZ so there wasn't a need for the second RPO code.
As for the vin decoder and how it reads Trans Am vins, I don't know I dont own a trans am yet.
I would imagine it might differentiate between the SE and base model? Not sure though.

Yeah, they also kept the Z28 RPO in there and no B4Z because they wanted the actual name Z28 somewhere besides only on the dash since the IROC-Z pretty much took over then.
IMO, 88-90, they should have just named them on the stickers and everything, IROC-Z28. At least on the 85-87's it said it was a Z28 and that it was an IROC-Z.
