Great example of a well maintained car: 1986 Firebird
History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
Great example of a well maintained car: 1986 Firebird
Recently purchased a 1986 Firebird. Car is a single owner, never saw winter or rain according to the owner, had the original window sticker and paperwork, along with warranties and brochures detailing available accessories. I found it in CT and had it shipped to Utah. I must say I really can't find anything wrong with the car!!!
I wondered about improving the exhaust flow and some minor things.
Recommendations? I don't want to modify much at all it, it's too perfect.

That is just a beauty. I like the old two tones. Always think of them with the 2nd color being lower on the body. That's right in the middle.
Why change anything? You can make it fast, but cars like this are fun to look at. And IMO fun to drive as-is and get looked at, just because it's alive and well 35 years later. And pretty as ever. Beautiful, sleek design still looks fresh as ever. There's a lot to be said for the non-Trans Am bodies.

Wow. Beautiful. It is too nice to modify but to each his own. Like TopDuarte said. Save the original parts to have for reinstallation when you get ready to part ways. Keep all your receipts to add to the file on the vehicle.

Whomever did the work, they did a great job. While you're likely to get varying opinions on modifying/not modifying the car, mine is to leave it alone. Anything you'd do to make it much faster will cost a pile of $$$ (it's always much more than just engine mods) and take the car far away from original. Of course, it's your decision.

Although the vehicle was repainted, that two-tone is factory and part of the D84 package.
The records show slightly over 3,000 of the Firebirds having that paint two-tone out of the nearly 60K Firebirds for 1986. Therefore, it's probably not something commonly seen.

Thank you for that info! I was also unaware of the two-tone being uncommon.

The D84 was a 3 year option for Base Firebirds, only 1984, 1985 & 1986 had the Option.
6074 with D84 in 1984
67L Dark Brown Metallic Lower 62U Light Brown upper
82 Sand Gray Metallic Lower - 75 Bright Red Upper
3778 with D84 in 1985
15L Medium Bray Metallic Lower - 12U Silver Metallic Upper
15L Med Gray Met Lower - 50U Yellow Upper
15L Med Gray Met Lower - 75U Blaze Red Upper
3111 86 Firebirds with the D84, and I have never seen one to my knowledge. They were available in the following color Combinations:
13L Silver Lower:
- 23U Bright Blue Met Upper
- 74U Flame Red Metallic
- 81U Bright Red
60L Champagne Gold Met - 41U Black
68L Dark Brown Metallic Lower - 66U Russet Metallic Upper
84L Med Gray Metallic Lower - 13U Silver Metallic Upper
I do not have a breakdown of each color combo unfortunately.
