No Camaro - 1st time in 22 years

Well, today is somewhat a sad day. I sold the IROC-Z last week and the new owner came to get it today. I hope he and his young son have many years of enjoyment out of the car, as I did. They are driving from Orlando to Memphis over the next two days, so if anybody sees the car, let me know! The owner will stay in touch and said he'll check out TGO.

JT, do I lose moderator status when I'm carless?

Now to keep my eyes out for a new ride. I'm thinking an '87-90 Formula or an '89 IROC-Z in blue. Hmmmm. So many options, so little inventory.

Well man, I hope you got what you wanted for it. They definitely got an amazing IROC. I'll keep an eye out for a new ride for ya, too

Re: No Camaro - 1st time in 22 years

I did get pretty close to my asking price, so I can't really complain. Plus, the car is going to a good home. I feel I have done what others have said and passed the baton. It's now someone else's job to keep the car in mint condition, if that's what they decide. It sounds like it is. I kind of miss it already, but my time was up.

I have been a member of TGO for 21+ years and the IROC-Z was never car of the month. Can you believe that? Now I have to start all over.

Yeah that's crazy that it never got COTM. I think I had nominated your cars before, and at least voted for them when they were in it. Either one of your cars should have gotten it. Weird.

Wow. Congrats and it is also bittersweet. If you see any 3rd gens that catch your eye in Central Texas, let me know and I can thoroughly go thru the car

Re: No Camaro - 1st time in 22 years

Thanks for the offer. I need a car that I can drive and enjoy. My IROC was a show car from day one and I felt bad driving it if looked like rain. Well, it rains every day in the afternoons in Florida, so the summer months are out. My next car will look good on the interior and will be clean on the exterior, but removing the wheels after every drive, to remove the dust from the inside of the wheels and wheel wells will NOT happen. I haven't gone to a car show in years, so now it's time to enjoy the car, rather than the show.

Good luck with your search! Keep an eye on cars in my area. Many of them are only driven in summer months, so you can find some with low miles and no rust. Bisman is the local sale site to watch. I’ll store it for you until you can get here to pick it up.

I would buy an upper midwest car over a Florida car, any day. My wife wants me to relax my search for just a few days, so I'll probably not be getting anything during these elevated used car prices.

It's a great time to sell a 3rd gen - bad time to buy one.

Re: No Camaro - 1st time in 22 years

Leonard, you have a perfect car, condition wise. My two cars were in mint condition. What makes you think I want a project, like the 1st two you showed? LOL

When I'm ready to buy, I may buy another low mile, mint car. The difference is the mindset that the car will be purchased under. It will be purchased to be driven and enjoyed. My '87 was purchased for show, from day 1. There's no way I could take that car and turn it into something other than a show car.

Re: No Camaro - 1st time in 22 years

Scott,
The potential problem I see is you might not be happy with a less than perfect car. You might find something that is nice and you need to detail it, but ultimately will you end up right back where you started? I fall into that trap a lot,

Re: No Camaro - 1st time in 22 years

Scott, congrats on the sale!

While my old red 89 and your 87 are vastly different cars,I feel like to they put us both somewhat into the same spot. I got to the point at the end of my ownership where I loved the car, but absolutely no longer enjoyed it. Not saying that's quite where you were but.....you get the idea. Everyone thought I was crazy to sell, but as I watched it go, I felt an enormous weight lift off my shoulders. After a year with a 6th gen SS, I found myself back in an Iroc. It's got some minor dings, and the clear is mostly gone, but I drive the car and I love it! No more OCD, no more anxiety, no more sweating the small stuff. Now I am in the process of a build, and when it's done, we'll see how I feel, but for now, it's sooooo nice to just get in and drive and not worry!!!!

Re: No Camaro - 1st time in 22 years

I'm happy and sad for you! It's tough to have a something that nice and keeping it at that level while trying to enjoy it.
A little salt in the wound, I've had my 89 formula 350 for 30years and it has 250k miles on it.
I try to keep it decent looking but I still drive the wheels off of it, don't worry about perfection at all.
Way to many memories to ever let it go and I hope my kids have just as many good times in it when the day comes for them to take over.

Hope you find the perfect toy soon !!

Re: No Camaro - 1st time in 22 years

Actually, the car is in a Memphis suburb in Mississippi. You may see it in the area as I heard the new owner plans to drive it and enjoy it with his son. It will not be a garage queen any more, but will be maintained as close to that as possible. Good for the new owner.

I could never drive the car much because every drive introduced dust into every nook and cranny. Having the car show ready all the time kept me from driving it. I hope he and his son enjoy the car for what it was purchased for. It sounds like the drive home from Orlando was the start of an enjoyable ownership.

Scott, congratulations on your sale. I always admired those Camaros of yours. It will be interesting to see what your next "driver" to be.

Just celebrated 33 years with mine in September...

Agreed. These are too fun to drive, to not drive. Having a driver will always remind you of your first one [two] every where you go.

Scott, congratulations. I was always impressed by your sweet Camaro. Look forward to seeing your "driver".

32 years with my white RS in May...

Definitely understand the Driver vs Mint conundrum. My RS was always the driver for 25 years & 389,000+ miles. After restoration only 12,000 miles in 6 years and always worry about keeping the RS nice. Finally decided, it's time to start the trek to 500,000+ miles

No Camaro after 22 years? Never won COTM either? Now why does that sound familiar, can't put my finger on it...

Congrats on the sale! I feel bad saying I don't miss mine at all, though I occasionally wonder how it's doing. I should buy a CarFax just to see.
