1985 Monogram 1/8 scale IROC-Z

I have had this model kit for 40 years. I remember buying it new for either $35 or $55. Based on the size and detail, I knew it would take time to build. Then in 2000, I bought my first IROC-Z. Granted, it was an '87, but was close enough that I then wanted the model to look like my car. The problem was, I didn't have the patience or modeling skills.

Then one day, I did the unthinkable and started building it. My very first step was to make it a TTop, like my '87. After carefully cutting the roof, I got to the very end and it cracked! So, I put the model back in the closet. That's where I am today.

I have two options. I can sell the model and hope that it's complete and all parts are still in the open box after being moved around for 40 years, or I can hire someone to build a replica of my car. What would you guys do? I'll get pics of the model and parts later.

I had that same model that I built when I was a kid. I also had the C4 Corvette model.

My suggestion is build it.

I'd think the crack is easily fixable and hidden? You still have to paint over it. But I hate building models myself.

Just fix the crack, build and paint it, then list it as a low mileage example that hasn't had any body or paint work.

As someone who builds and enjoys plastic models... if it has sentimental value to you, repair it and finish it. If it doesn't, there is someone out there who would love to have it and complete it. Those things bring pretty good $$$ these days in any condition.
I have amassed quite a collection over the years of GTA plastic models that I'll get around to building sometime. Maybe. I have a 1/16 scale in progress right now.

I had that kit, got from a hobby shop in '00. I think it was already out of production at that point? I had it for about 10 years and never got around to building it. Then it actually got stolen from me. Much like my first Camaro did.

I wish I would have built the dang thing.
