86 Iroc

I just bought an 86 IROC Z, it's a stolen recovery but I think it has a lot of potential. It wasn,t wrecked and it was only gone for 5 days, but they broke the column, stole the wheels, and chipped the corner of the t-top. I just bought it for $900.00, the motor's rebuilt, it has stainless exhaust, some surface rust spots, but nothing major. Just trying to find out if I paid too much, or is it worth the trouble. Another thing it's red w/ gold interior and striping around the ground effects. I gone to a couple of the Camaro websites, and haven't seen any with this package. Don't know if it's some kind of oddball or not.Any help would be appreciated , I live in the Pittsburgh,Pa. area and would like to hear from some other Chevy nuts out there. Hope to hear from ya, Marty

From the little information you posted I'd say the price wasn't bad, but the car isnt really rare.

86 IROC

I really didn't think it was any kind of rare, just a different color package than what I've seen. I just picked the car up this morning,11:30 and haven't really had a chance to go over it. What I do know is, the motor was rebuilt about 15k ago. It has 3"SS Borla exhaust, some surface rust, all the options work, a/c, cruise, p/w, p/l, seems to run pretty good, but I just got it. The only other thing I've noticed is whenever you get on it from the get-go, the rear drops and there's a loud bang from the rear, this is my first 3rd gen. Camaro so any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Marty

Sounds like you need a tranny mount.

You may have a point , but it sounds like it's coming from the very back of the car.

Check the tranny mount. 9 times out of 10 they're bad. If its not a tranny mount there's a lot of things that could be causing noises, but I would almost guarentee its a tranny mount.

Thanks, once I can get the car up in the air I'll check it out. I see that you're a moderator, not really sure what that is but you must know alot about Camaro's. If I run into other problems, and I'm sure I will, is there any way to get in touch with you, or do I just post a query ?

Basically as a moderator I just lurk around this board and randomly select posts/threads for deletion or closing, etc and I have the power to make announcements and punt trouble makers off the site and stuff like that. J/K... while I can and do have those powers and responsibilities I usually just answer questions and make sure no one starts any trouble. Frequently I'll tell someone to check the archives or tech articals, that kinda thing.

For any problems you run into, just post them to whichever board has the most relation to your problem and someone should be able to help you. This board being restoration and history basically covers everything except for sale posts, but typically it gets questions about how many of a certain option were made, or people looking for some piece of information or trivia that makes their car one of a kind or worth $10,000,000.

This is one of the busier boards on the site.

Marty, I am a Moderator here on Thirdgen, as well.

We have some regional boards also. The one I moderate is the Notheastern Regional board, where we have members as far west as Ohio to as far east as Maine. Basically the northeast corner of the country. Stop by anytime, and post, as region-specific information is hosted there.

Pittsburgh is only about an hour away from me. Perhaps we'll meet up at a cruise sometime this summer.
