Conv't Sunvisors
Considering that these cars initially were T-top cars, my guess is that the visors are the same as the t-top cars.
Can any one confirm or correct this??
Thanks,

Ken

Confirmed. Convertible sun visors are identical to t-top visors with one exception. All convertible visors are black, regardless of interior color.

Thanks Willie!
BTW, mine are red like the rest of the interior, but then again - mine is an oddball as you know!

Yes Ken, your 1986 IROC-Z convertible has some variations from production 1987 - 1992 ragtops. Chevy had not "geared up" for convertible production when your car was built and some of the smaller details had not been covered.

Yeah, it took me a while before I found some of the differences, and the Sunvisors I never knew about. I also did not know that my trunk panels which are chopped coupe panels were not used on the other convertibles. Did the 87's also just have the black carpeting that the later models do?
Mine also has an A4 with the 305TPI, which I believe was not available with the other ones.
I cannot think of any other differences though - I believe the rest is the same as the 87, including the door pieces and the short third break light.

Just to let you know. My Chevy dealership was able to get me brand new visors! Only problem was the material had seperated from the board! Guess it got too hot in the warehouse and the glue let go allowing bubbles to form. I tried 4 times, the dealership even kept the defective ones to be sure they were not just shipping those back.

Good catch. I do not know what year Chevy started to put only black carpeting in the cargo area on convertibles, but it was not 1987. All 1987 convertibles have color-keyed carpeting in the trunk area, exactly like yours.

I need to state that the 305 TPI with 5-speed was not available until 1987. That's why your '86 has the A4, it was the only tranny available with the 305 TPI. Then in 1987 and only in 1987, the 5-speed was the only transmission available with the 305 TPI in the convertible. From 1988 - 1992, both the 5-speed and automatic were available in the convertible, regardless of engine.
I cannot think of any other differences though - I believe the rest is the same as the 87, including the door pieces and the short third break light.
The 9-inch, 2-bulb third brake lamp was used in 1986 pre-production models (like yours) and 1987 only. The side spoiler extensions (i.e. "door pieces") were used from 1986 thru 1987 and early production 1988 convertibles.
There are other differences, such as screw placement for plastic header panels and the rear top release mechanism (the slider and associated linkage). I have personally seen three different variations of the slider and linkage, the early designs were not spring loaded, the later ones are.

Okay, so the carpet is color coded on the 87's - but they didn't have the deluxe panels (B48), right? (the lockable storage compartment on the drivers side and the cover over the spare on the pass side - as far as I know).
I was just recently made aware about the black carpeting by another convt owner on here.
I see I had also misread the info regarding the 305TPI/A4 combo. I thought that was not available in convertibles - but I guess it is just written a little backwards in some instances.
The rear top release mechanism you are referring to - is it the handle underneat the tonneu cover that you move sideways to unlock the center bolt? I am almost certain mine is spring loaded - but I'll have to check that up.
Interesting stuff!!

I was parked next to a red 89 convert IROC at a show last summer & his trunk carpet was red with red choped coupe panels? It only had 9k on it, so I am going to assume it was origional. What gives?

My trunk panels are red as well.
So, the no trunk panel deal was just for a few years then - or was it depending on if the B48 option was originally there??

RPO B48 was not an option on convertibles. Plastic trunk panels were not covered with carpeting, only cut down coupe panels without carpeting. Incidentally, Chevrolet does show part numbers for these panels.
It appears that the rear carpeting and panels were the same color as the interior through 1989 and that all black panels were used in 1991 - 1992. Anyone out there own a 1990 convertible with any interior color other than black?
Ken, I used to own a red interiored 1987 IROC-Z convertible. I believe I have a couple of pics of the trunk area. If you'd like to see it, please e-mail me.

I thought it was a 1992 only deal w/ the carpet only trunk. Mine doesn't have ANY remnants of the plastic coupe stuff. Instead it just has formed carpet pieces that fit into the quarter areas giving it a larger storage area. I can try to get some pics but it'll take a bit.

Seems like we are on some uncovered grounds here - let's post some pics of the different versions of the trunk area.
Unfortunatly I only have a pic with the subs in, and without the pass side cover in, but here goes:

90 RS 'vert here, with black modified coupe panels. My friends 92 RS Heritage 'vert has the formed carpeting panels covering drivers & passengers sides.
Matching sun visors and trunk
I have an 89 GTA convertible L98 that is all matching colors (tan) with the locking side compartments in trunk. It also started life as a hatch back as per title. ASC coversion.
