3rd gen suspension question
I read an article in Motor Trend 1991 testing a new '91 RS which came with 305 and 16X8 inch Z28 wheels. They reported .91g skidpad. I was suprised by this when comparing that to the 4th gens which were proclaimed as being "superior in every aspect" yet tested at about .86 or so.
Seems the 4th gens may have been quicker and rode better but handled worse. I guess I underestimated 3rd gens.
My understanding is that if an RS came factory equipped with the 16X8 Z28 rims it also got some of the Z28 supspension components. Is this correct? If so, what sway bar size do they have and what springs (lb/inch) ?
Thanks for any info on this. I have been wondering about this for several years.

They got that from a GM test, and yes it is correct that 4th Gens do not handle as good as Thirds. We have a better front suspension for handling and their front suspension is setup for a smoother ride. Rear suspensions are pretty much the same.

IROC22, you are correct! RPO F41 frt. bar 34mm and rear bar 21mm. But when you jump to the FE2 suspension you get a 36mm bar on the front and a 24mm bar on the rear. Also the lower control arms are different with the 16in. wheels.

Were both of those available on RS Camaros?
How do you determine which one you have? Are those codes on the doors or somewhere?
My '92 RS is factory original with 16X8 Z28 rims. I'm just trying to figure out it's suspension options and spring rates.

The RS's had at best F41, FE2 was reserved for Z28's, Iroc's, Formula's, Trans Am's, and GTA's.
F41 on an RS included the mid size front bar, mid size rear bar, and a Z28 steering gearbox.
