These are going to be tough.
I walked past so may of these at the yards over the years.
Who would have thunk I would need them now?

They're the same nuts as on the LG4 air cleaner. If you find a source for them, let me know, I wouldn't mind getting some spares.
I search for them pretty frequently on ebay, tough to find...
Nice car, BTW!

Now I honestly haven't seen a CFI setup in a few years, and I haven't paid attention to the *****, but if you look at the one in the pic above, it looks pretty close to the one in the artists rendition. The one in my pic came from the hardware store. They have bins full of various ***** and whatnot.

Re: Where to find Crossfire air cleaner Retaining *****
Thanks - I appreciate the advise.
Would prefer to keep my GM car all GM.
Will find the real ones eventually.
I am a real stickler for authenticity - only exact will do.
Yours looks nice - But I can tell from here, that it is not the one I am looking for.

Re: Where to find Crossfire air cleaner Retaining *****
i have seen two styles of those-early '82 and mid-'82/83
the early air cleaners just had a hole where the *****
went through,on the later aircleaners that area is raised
to prevent water draining in.
'84 vette might have the early style *****,while i think
i have seen the later style ***** also used on some of
the later(say '85 up) carb air cleaner lids with the raised
center hole.

Drew
I am attaching 4 photos in the next two messages. Note that the washer is missing from the right one in photo DSC00804. These two are original, though they may have been replaced during a recall to deal with the water problem. I don't remember exactly what they replaced, but I think is was these *****.

Here are the last two photos. Note that the shaft on the ***** is about 1-1/8" in length from the top of the washer.

I know on my 86 LG4 the **** porting looks the same but I'm not sure what it looks like on the under side. It's in a storage box along with other stock pieces I had removed. Haven't gotten rid of one piece except for cracked rubber vacuum lines

Re: Where to find Crossfire air cleaner Retaining *****
when i went to the yard the other day.
There were about 10 3rd gens there.
All were either 6cyls, or engine removed.
Sounds like these are more common then I thought, and I need to just be patient, and a set will turn up.

Re: Where to find Crossfire air cleaner Retaining *****
I could be wrong, but did they make 2 variations of these? I know the camaro air cleaner lid had raised areas where the nut would bolt on, making a longer nut necessary. The threaded shank didn't even go through the holes. The Firebird versions had a recessed area and the shank part came up through the hole quite a bit. I only have one set from a Camaro...I also have both air cleaner lids. The Firebird lid is more of a PITA to get the nuts secured vs. the camaro because of the indentation. I could be wrong....just something I've noticed with the 2 different lid designs.

Re: Where to find Crossfire air cleaner Retaining *****
found one on ebay.
The pictures really helped - did not realize the shaft was that tall.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=140326131552
I am going to look real carefully at the Cadillacs the next time I pull.
found these also -Reproductions ---> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/85-86...mZ300390371127

Re: Where to find Crossfire air cleaner Retaining *****
This is the one got on ebay.
It only screws down about 1/2" to the line in the picture.
It is to fat to go down any further
Does not seem right?

Re: Where to find Crossfire air cleaner Retaining *****
WELL - After 6 months of looking, i finally found a correct pair of these darn things.
I was stumbling through the swap meet at the 2010 Bloomington Gold Corvette show a few weeks back...
Low and behold - there was a pair of the exact ones i needed - laying on a table.
Seems the early 1982 Corvettes and 1982 Camaros used the same *****.
A one year ONLY item, that was substituted late in the model year because of a drainage issue.
Man was I happy!
