Alright, I have the console shifterplate without indicator (top picture), and would like to purchase the shifter indicator mechanism, and the covering plate, in good condition. Preferable I'd like the coveringplate detached from the console top, as I do not need the full console top, and shipping on it would be expensive.

As far as I have found out, these shifter with indicators are a 91-92 firebird or TA option only, but possibly on some earlier S/E models aswell.

Yes, that and the coveringplate for the consoletop, what's in the middle picture. Needs to be for a firebird to fit I guess, atleast the coveringplate.

I don't know the partnumbers, SO I do not know if a camaro version of this would work or not.

 

The cover plate (top) is one peice from the ash tray to the front og the glove box opening. Has a grid pattern on it. There is an Auto and a Manual versions. Some had power window switches as shown and some also had the power mirror switch. Most new ones do not have holes. You have to add them for the accesories yours has. Also the ash tray insert and cig lighter are seperately sold. You might find a good used one somewhere. The Camaro console is totally different.

Have you tried any local salvage yards? I see youre in Norway. Probably hard to come by???
HawksThirdGenParts might have a good used one and may can get it new.
I am going to the local salvage yard tomorrow and will keep an eye out for a decent used one.

 

No, these cars isnt in yards here, not really on the street either. I have power windows, but not mirrors.

I emailed perrypam's and see if they have, but they dont stock it.So we'll see. The top I do have is really nice looking, so I would think anything one finds in the yard would look alot worse. So that might be an issue. If it looks nice it dont really matter if it's used though. So is athat part glued in there then? thye plastic seems different colored throughout, so it would seem to be separate modled parts, then glued or melted together at a later stage perhaps. I shoudl maybe take my console apart again and look a little harder on it.

 

Youre talking about the grayish part. Its one peice. Its just painted and made to look seperate. If thats the only issue, you could just paint it. Find a closely or correct gray color. Clean the old off, use a prep-wipe and then some adhesion promotor. Adhesion promotor if for painting plastics and such. Then spray on the gray paint. Ill still look today.

 

OK, I found I need the whole consoletop, + the underneath plastic that makes up the shifter indicator mechanism. Anyone have a decent one they would sell?

was at a pickapart today and saw this setup on a 1990 firebird ... didnt get it just letting you know they at least had them as early as that.

 

Yes, now just need someone to pick it some time when they are at a junkyard. well now I also need a new stock rearwheel, as I cracked mine yesterday.

Second time even I've done this. Oh well, cheaper to replace than a wrecked rear fender atleast.

 

nahhhhhh a little JB weld and some mothers polish will have that rim looking like new ... I will keep my eyes out for this part for you ... but as stated before some had power windows and mirrors ... what switches does you console plate have?

 

only windows, but if it's hole for mirrors too, that dont matter. I could just add that.

Looking at it it's strange it still holds air. Cant be much holdeing that tire on.

 

I have one with power window switches only ... bad part the orange indicator is broke but doesn't look hard to make on out of clear plastic ... let me know if your interested in it. also it has a boken ashtray lid but your will fix that paroblem.

Do those shift indicators from to 90-92 Trans Am's light up red like the models without the gear indicator lever? I'm looking into swapping out my busted original in my 87 GTA and I read somewhere some of these light up yellow???or is that just a Camaro thing?

 

The yellow is a "Camaro" thing. I also have an 87 GTA with a red indicator which was in poor condition and just bought a new console bezel and indicator from a 91 Firebird and it lights up red with a orange tab indicator. I believe you can use a yellow Camaro indicator but will need to change the clear indicator bulb to a red LED. I bought a bunch of red bulbs online but have been lucky enought to score a red Firebird indicator anyway. The orange translucent tape for the indicator (to show what gear your in) was faded out so I scraped that old tape off and put on new "clear orange" tape I also bought online and looks good. I will I install this whole setup as soon as I can polish out the "yellowing" from sun fade on the indicator dial P R N D D part. I hear a polish for headlights might help with this. Will try the Mothers polish unless somebody has one in pristine shape? I saw the photo of the one above and it's faded as well. At least my original is in good condition but the shift boot is broken off on the back as well as the ash tray and mounting tabs.
