I've got a Center Console,...... This one dark grey and is bare of accessories, no Console door or shifter plate. I do have an Auto and a Manul Shifter plate avalable - but no pics right now.

I also have another 82-84 Firebird center console that has the "Knee Pad" on the drivers side. I'm pretty sure that console is Black in color.

John , Is the 82-84 lower console different from the other year consoles that Camaros use? Or just the top part of the console different due to the shift plates being larger? I havent compared them.

Consoles: About Floor Consoles.......

"Regular" Camaro's
The 82-92 floor console BASE is compatable throughout the years.

The Console Base TOP is specific from 82-89, then from 90-92. The late can be used on the early but the early can't be used on the late due to the monting of a Air Bag Module. All floor console "tops" have the pattern on the back for mounting of console clock.

Berlinetta center consoles are Specific from 84-86 due to the Digital Cockpit configuration.

FireBird center consoles from 82-84 are specific to those years and appear similar to the Camaro consoles due to the "Base" and "Top" design. ( they are no the same as a Camaro console ) The Trans Am Version has a large padded area on the drivers side for the drivers knee to rest against. I don't know if this is just experience or not - but Firebird consoles appear to be dark grey and Trans Am consoles appear to be Black.

85-92 Firebird consoles are updated and the radio pod is introduced. I don't believe there were any changes to the one peice floor console...... could be wrong.


Besides Light Bulbs - No Firebird parts from ANY year can be used on any Camaro console. ( Unless it's some custom work ! )

FYI not all 82 trans am consoles got the kneee thing


my 82 t/a does not have it, it is black console however

i need an upper 82 83 84 bird console does anyone have one unbroken ?


mine is broken at the radio hole

and yes the camaro ones were different i have an 82 console asembly from an 82 z28 i parted out and they are VERY different


these cars had very specific consoles, for each model and different year groups as well, 82-84 ,and 85-up!

same with dash pads, they were 4 different ones as well!

heres is an upper console shell from an 82 Z28 i parted:



so you can see how much different the camaro one is from the bird ones

the bases are not the same either, i tried to fit the upper from my 82 t/a into the 82 z28 lower and it wont fit into it, and vice versa as well

you have to find an 82 83 84 bird one

The responses for my 82 TA so far won't fit. It has no knee rest. I need a console from an actual 82 TA (Black).

FYI

I put a 1984 T/A console in my 82 trans am and it fit fine. Put it in cause I wanted the knee pad type. A 1982 auto shifter plate will also fit a 1984 console as well however 1982 shifter plates are specific due to it being a 3 speed. The console top (what holds the P/W & mirror switches) from a 1982 will fit a 1984 console fine. Glove box lids also never changed.

 

82 83 84 consoles all same , for each model

82 and 83 = 200C trans

84-up = 700r4

 

'83 could also have the 700r4

What's this about T/A's having a knee pad? A guy I work with has had two '83 T/A's and neither had/has a knee pad.

It appears that the knee pad was more uncommon than I thought. It's more of a knee "rest" than a knee "pad". Here's a picture of the one I've got so you can get an idea what we were talking about !
