Shift Boot Dimensions?

Does anyone have some fabric dimensions for the manual shift boot?

I don't see any boots out there I like, so I thought I'd sew one together. Thought I'd ask and see if anyone has some specs before I try to make things fit by guessing.

Thanks
-Paul

I'm currently using one a found in a bone yard. It's first rate (though I doubt I'd find another quite as good).

I made my own, note thats its for an auto. I now have a different shift ****, and I think it looks 100% better. I'm sure making your own boot would be loads easier for a manual.

I used to make a few boots for the auto firebird, it was just a stock replacement. I once made a manual boot for someone who had a ripped one but it didnt come out as well as the autos did, the difference between the manual and automatics are besides the obvious size, the manual one has 4 sides and the auto only has 2. This made it very difficult for sewing the manual because the circle at the top had to be the correct size for the shifter and finishing off the 4th side became complicated, you will see what i am talking about when you try it. I dont have the dimensions anymore nor do i have a 3rd gen centerconsole anymore so i couldent even tell you, I now have one from a 99TA and i like the look alot better.
Good Luck,
Dennis

How about taking apart your old one and copying the panels. I could use a new one too. Maybe you could start a side line here. If you don't have an old one to copy, I could take mine out...I do have another used one I am going to put in anyway.

Don't have one to copy. About to finish up my T56 swap. Just waiting for the clutch set to arrive.

Are you interested in mine to use as a pattern ??? You can rip the sewing out and copy the panels. I don't need it back, but would be interested in having you make me one too, if it turns out good.

Finally getting around to posting a picture. Here is the boot I made, based on MD88's template.

It fit a stock height stick perfect. I cut mine down and it's a little low but stilll looks good. I might modify the design a bit to have it not sink so much below the plate, but I'm in the process of putting Autometer gauges in right now so it will wait.

Thanks again MD88! Worked out perfect!

I have a leather boot that I bought on Ebay for around $25. For the money I'm happy, but it'll get upgraded when I get the money to have a real upholstery shop redo it. The leather is very nice, but is a different grain than the original, and it seems like there's too much leather there, like the car the guy originally designed it for had a much taller shifter.

But for the money, I don't have any complaints.

I don't have any great pics, but here are a couple:

heres a pic of the boot i was talking about. it actually looks good in person, in the pics the grey looks very very grey but actually it is a dark grey. it probably wont stay like this for long i want a megashifter or something.

just out of curiosity, below the fabric/leather boot, is there supposed to be a rubber boot, that basically covers the hole in the floor boards? Or is that just specific to my hurst shifter?
I left mine out since it was pretty shredded, and I think i'll be getting more road noise... is this a common piece as well?

.... ok, so that rubber "stepped" boot is specific to shifter, or tranny or car?

Where can I get one that will fit right? The one in there had 6 holes I think, and only 2 lined up, and it was *very* chewed up, that's why I left the tattered remains out...

junkyard, or a new aftermarket one (i suppose they could still be avail thru gm but doubt it)

ive seen 2 different stock boots, one for the rubber bushed/filled shifter and one for a solid shifter that im using now.. difference is in the size of the opening for the shifter itself

it doesnt create an amazing seal or anything, so even a tattered and beaten one will be better then nothing.. the tranny and road noise will be quite loud without it though

oh yea, I know that. I'm running open headers and no boot, good god...

I threw out the old one, it was beat up. I'll grab a hurst one thats meant for this... Or measure the hole spacing or something..

The factory T5 one for our cars fit both the T56 stock shifter, and PRO 5.0.

For the stock shifter, there is a rubber grommet about 1.25" in dia that would fit around the shifter stick to seal the rubber boot.
