Tightened tilt column skrews and it still moves!!! help

Hello

I did as instructed in the tech articles to tighten the skrews in the column to stop the wigling.

I did this and i still have a problem. The whole tilt assembly moves down to the left and in no other direction.

There is not any sort of back and forth "play" in the column. What i mean is it doesnt jiggle, it just moves down the the left when you push on the steering wheel.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

Please help

Is it all assembled now or still apart? I did this fix over about a week and took my time and just got done a few days ago. I'm on vacation! Are the pivot pins in tight or any play there? I heard ya may need to install bushings if you still have play at that pivot joint. Are the bearings in correctly? Did the shaft snug up tight when you put the lock plate back on? Is the lock plate depressed all the way? Assuming you have it all back together of course.
Keep me posted. I hope this helps, I just did my sons 91 RS automatic 305 so maybe I can help. What year? And I have tons of pics!

I've only done it once and mine was fixed. All the small pieces, the wire harnesses, etc. are a pain and I'll admit it didn't work out as smoothly as the instructions made it sound but it worked.

It is a 90 GTA. the column is all apart and so far tightening it up has done nothing. However one of the skrews that tighten up the column was stripped so i beleive that i may need a new column.

But there isnt a jiggle when you hold the steering wheel like described in magasines i have so i am not sure if there is a fix for what i have. My problem is that when i put pressure on the steering wheel the whole tilt assembly moves down the the left and when i let go it goes back up.

Thanks for your help so far

Good job Speed. Congrads on doing it yourself and your new column. It's probably not as bad as changing spark plugs! 4 hours and I still have 2 left! Can't get to em, my hands and arms and back is so beat up.
