Need philips screwdriver
7mm socket
10mm socket

Remove the dashpad
4x philips screws in the dash pad hold the back part of the dashpad on
a dozen or so 7mm screws line the front bottom of the dash pad, take every one of those out and double check to make sure you have them all out before you start puling on the dashpad.

Once thats out you can start from underneath...

Remove all the lower underdash panels, 7mm screws hold those in
Should be another half dozen or so of these.

Also unbolt the computer at the same time, right hand side of the dash, 2x 7mm screws hold that to the dash bracketry.

Pull the computer down out of the way...

Unbolt the gauge trim (7mm screws)
Unbolt the gauges and disconnect the wires that go to them. Be mindful of the tabs so you don't break them.

Set the gauges aside...

Unbolt/disconnect the headlight switch and disconnect any accessory buttons (hatch release, foglights, sub woofer controls, defroster)

Unbolt the top portion of the dash board, should be 4 or 5 7mm screws on the top at the firewall.

Loosen the 2 steering column bolts (13mm or 14mm socket) so that you can slide the dash board out (dont start pulling on it yet...)

Unbolt 2x 10mm screw holding the dash board to the frame, 1 on each side in the far corners, look for them, usually silver and self tapping threads...

gently pull the whole dash unit back from the firewall. Making sure not to pull too hard on any lights or wires. Reach in behind and unclip the wiring harness from the back of the dash unit. If you cant get your hand in behind, undo the upper dash heating duct work (7mm screws) and set that aside. Will give you more room. Again be mindful of the wires, lights, and that metal center brace on the dash unit. It is very fragile after a lot of years in the heat and cold and so on.

once you have all the wires and everything else out of the dash unit you should be able to lift it up and over the steering wheel and out of the car. It is heavy and awkward to handle so be careful that you dont scratch or damage anything while you are pulling it out of the car.

Hopefully this helps!

If you dug to the core, then your digging in the wrong spot

HVAC is a different unit
