4th gen console in 3rd gen

I have been contemplating a 4th gen console in my 89 RS I already have the seats out of a 4th gen in it and they worked out great but can anyone tell me how it will look I am not sure if I will do it or not? Also is it possible to put heads off of a 350 on my 305.

Thanks

theres quite a few 4th gen dash/console swaps around here, I dont personally like them much but to each their own. I believe the 350 heads will work, but you will lower your compression ratio.

lol... oops

The console will fit, yes. I understand that the swap is a bit more involved on a Camaro than on a Firebird because Camaros do not have that radio pod above the console, which the console is ment the blend into.

Also, even if you have an automatic vehicle, the swap is much easier and less involved if you use a 6 speed console and just have your auto shifter handle sticking up through the boot. Otherwise, you have to move the shifter over, bang parts of the trans tunnel down...yech, no thanks.

But yes, do a search and you will find a number of threads about this by people who did the swap in both Birds and Camaros.

Good luck, keep us posted.

i have one in BOTH of my thirdgens. sooooo much better with a stick. with the auto i had to hack up the center plate to get it to fit. i ended up hacking up an auto one, saved my stick centerplate for when i did my T5 swap. i was even running a megashifter for a while with the 4th gen console (ugly, don't do it). now that it is a stick shift it almost looks stock. i love my cupholders.

on both of my firebirds this was a drop in mod. non of the bolts line up though, so the console is litteraly just sitting there. you will also have to work somthing out for your power window switches and such.

For me, the bolts under the console storage area lined up fine with the stock holes, as I recall.

Best thing for the power mirror is to use a 4th gen switch, IMO, and mount some window switches in the ashtray on a custom plate. I went with non-thirdgen switches that are smaller and feel much nicer and have LEDs.

Thanks for the info I don't have power windows so I am not worried about that, the console in question is currently in a 95 Trans am which is the same car I got the seats out of.

Yes, it can be done.

Yes, its a PITA to do the auto console. Lots of moving the shifter around. But it does look nice in there.
