Did a cluster swap, some questions...
No pics, unfortunately...the only camera in the house doesn't have a cable to hook up to the computer.
I spent a couple hours down at the junk yard and pulled a 85mph/140kph cluster to replace my stock v6 cluster(bunch of dummy lights annoy me). Looks great, but a few things are wrong:
1) Oil pressure gauge sits above the max. When this happens on a fuel gauge, it's the float gone bad...is there anything similar for oil pressure?
2) Temp gauge sits at the lowest(100). Not a huge deal, since I have an aftermarket one mounted on my dash to keep control of the temperature(mine tends to run hotter than normal and I'm in the process of fixing it), but I'd like to fix this so I can remove the aftermarket one.
3) Volt gauge is reading ~15v, and I've never seen them ever read that high before. Is it broken too, or is it really at 15v?
4) The new speedometer has a trip meter, which I love, but it's built onto the same casing as the odometer. Can I take the new odometer and roll it to match my real one, and continue using it? If not, what's the other option?

nothing wrong with your cluster, you will just have to replace your oil and temp sending units.
your oil sending unit is currently telling your new gauge the engine has pressure, just not how much. thats why its pegged.
the water temp is simply telling the gauge you're not overheating.
thats why its reading "low".
your "idiot light" sending units only take two readings.
when you go to the parts store to get the sending units, just tell them you have gauges, they'll get you the right ones.
changing the sending units should take you half an hour. you may need some brass elbows to allow the oil sensor to clear the intake.
other than that its all "bolt on"

hey james, you were running xenon bulbs at one point IIRC?
if so, how'd you keep them burning out so easily?
i only have 4 bulbs left in my cluster...

I've experienced no problems with burn-out, but, truthfully, I don't drive often at night either.

Thanks James! I knew had seen those pages somewhere before! I guess I'll have your answer about whether "bad things will happen", as I drove it to work and I'll be driving it back home(60 miles total). So far no problems. I figure if the sending units are on-off, then if my temp gets to 250(it won't), then it'll just spike to the top. In theory, it should be fine, I'd think.

you won't have any problems, just remember to swap out those sensors for some "smart" ones.
