Called Dealer About recall info on my car

Hey i don't know if you guys had the same trouble as me. But i went and i called the local dealer in my area Tom Gibbs Chevrolet and talked to service. I asked him if he could look up any recall info on my camaro. he told me to give him the last 8 digits of the vin. then he looked it up and said what year is it. I told him it was a 91 and he said thats too old. recalls have a limit on that. I never thought that a recall would have a time limit on when you needed to get something fix. I know my seatbelts don't work. and i notice on these cars there was a recall. wtf. anyone know if he was bs me or not. thanks

There's definitely a limit, I thought it was 7 years or so. Certainly not 15 years.

yeah, i had to do mine myself. i even went as far as to call the TSB but no luck. good news is the "recall kit" is less then $10 and despite what instructions say you can do it without any special tools if you are carefull.

91 recall

If it is the gas tank recall, it came out in 1994 AND IS STILL CURRENT- I had mine done last year. It is a SAFETY recall and as such has NO TIME LIMIT. The fill neck/gas tank joint is prone to develop pinhole leaks in the solder and that spells bad news...
Call the dealer back and ask for the number in Detroit to discuss the recall and possible neglegence issues- that should get their attention!
Either that or call another dealer- I had to call two... the second ran my VIN, told me to come in for an inspection and advised me to come back in 4-5 days when my FREE fuel tank would be in from Detroit!

I have read the recall sheets for the seat belt buckles and IIRC they actually said on them that there was no time limit because it was a safety issue. I think the problem is that the dealerships' computer records don't go back far enough for us.

This kind of thing has been discussed countless times. It pretty much varies from dealership to dealership. It's a safety recall so there is no time limit. If one dealer says the time limit is up, call another.

I used to work for a Chevrolet dealership. Tell them to look it up on a program called "Dealer-world". It is an online GM website that most if not all Chevrolet dealerships use. Tell them to type in the whole vin # and it will list ALL recall's that were listed for that vehicle and if the service recall's were performed or not on that vehicle.

Safety recalls have no time limit (cause that would mean possible lawsuits out the yin-yang for GM). Cosmetic recalls are time limited however.

Hope that helps!

ya sometimes its not the dealership but the single person behind the counter, i phone GM and they say thers an open recall on my seatbelts, i go to the dealership and they say, ya theres a recall but we cant get the parts, he suggests phoning customer service GM to see if there are any parts avaliable. while on the phone, the woman personally phones the dealership i just went to and she talked to another dude, he said that the parts are avaliable and ther shouldnt be a problem. as it turns out, there are parts available, they know how/where to get them, but when the service guy ordered seatbelts for a corvette 4 years ago, he got different coloured belt clips, so he instinctively assumed that it was gonna be like that for me, luckily the other guy already put the order thru so we'll see what i can get.

chances r that it was just that guys ordering or because it was for a corvette.

anything related to safety they have t replace I went to dealrship for the recall on my gas tank, and argued with the guy forever I had a printout from alldata, and he was like its not in our computer it doesnt go back that far, and im like yes it does finally after like an hour of arguing with him they found the recalll, and tested it long story short it wasnt the tank it was leaking around the sending unit......or so they said so I sold the car like 2 weeks later so I really didnt care anyways. If its a safety recall they have to do it
