Im hoping I don't need an entire cluster just for this.

Any and all help appreciated.

Does this happen when you start your car? Im sorry im not good at cars, or have your problem, but similar. My RPM is completely out but when I start the car it does that same jump. Ive taken it to a repair shop and they said VERY hard to fix that I gotta go in the motor or some dumb crap, so im not sure. Id like a fix though. But just posting my 2 cents, hope you get your problem fixed.

The needle stays pointing to the right all the time. The video i linked you to is what it does when I start it up.

Could there be a lose connection in the cluster?

Try just taking the plastic lens off the cluster and moving the needle back UP (NOT down) and to the stopper. See if that works.

My 91 Z28 does the same thing. There is a thread about fixing them but from what Ive read is a little complicated, you have to buy resistors and some other stuff that I dont remember.

lol looks like you got a really short stroke if you can rev your engine that high that fast.

If the tach is faulty, hit a bone yard. The last tach I purchased, a 5500 red line, was $15. Remove the black bezel, the clear plastic gauge face, then the metal bezel (all held on by screws). IIRC, the tach is held in place by two small screws. Remove them and simply pull the tach toward you. Reverse order to replace. Twenty minutes work even if you have no experience.

is there a clip on the Headlights pull switch to take it off?

Yes, pull off the blank below the headlight switch, and you'll see a little silver button on the bottom of the switch. Turn the headlights on and use something to push that button in (I use socket exentions) and then the switch will pull out, you can gently push the headlight **** back in to turn the headlights off without it cliping back in.

Oh, and my suggestion about just pushing the needle back around the other direction, if there's actually something wrong with your car, that won't fix your problem. I just remember my tach needle doing that when I was installing white face overlays, I pushed it over to far and it went down like that (that was with the key in the on position but the car not started). I don't know if that could possibly happen if someone revved the car to high or not.
