4th gen dash is in.

Finally got the dash in and got my wiring figured out. Here it is, I still need the top piece of the dash, the newer ebrake handle, and i think thats it.

Next will be to find some 4th gen door panels that match and fit them.

Seats are out of a 99 or 00, leather, driver power and heated. got them for 2 or 300 cant remember.

Not the best 4th gen dash out there, but it was in my 95 Z28 donor car so in it went.

Deffinently post up some info on the HVAC wiring. My A/C and Defroster works great, but when I turn it to "Vent", the blower motor shuts off. Cant figure it out yet ...

The cluster wiring is easy. Tedious, but easy. Just get the appropriate wiring diagrams and take your time. And SOLDER. You dont want to have to get back there to re-do something that comes loose.

Here is a notepad file, with the wiring for everything except the cluster. If people need it I can make one for it too.

I didnt use the 4th gen fuse panel.

i used the third and fourth gen pillars together. i cut off the third gen one where the t top is. so it is a small flat piece. then i cut the fourth gen end piece off and super glued it under the third gen pillar. what year is your car. what are the colors of the wire you have spliced together?

Car is a 91 Z. Not sure on the wire colors at the moment, have to go out and look. A/C and Defost work great, but when I turn it to Vent or heat the blower motor shuts off. Still need to figure out the hot/cold cable too ...

yes i have this problem the only thing i came up with to get by this was to use one of the center screws from the factory third gen dash pad the ones that are about 2 or 3 inchs long it helps hold the dash some but the gaps still there don't seem to be away around the gap.

I'd like to swap dashes, but I wouldn't like the AIRBAG lettering on the passenger side. Since I have a 87, I don't even have the steering wheel airbag. At least the steering wheels could be swapped, but I would still have the passenger side to deal with. I wouldn't care that it is car (as long as it was disabled) but I wouldn't want the AIRBAG lettering on the passenger side dash.

Yea, that looks about right ... Do you have any others of the top of the driver's side? The flat plastic piece behind the cluster sits up a little higher on mine, what about on yours?

well i spent most of last summer working on this dash swap started out with a 01 formula dash off of ebay for $150 it came with some big cracks in the center of it and the drivers side end was broke completely off. now it was just a dash didn't get the metal mounting bracket with it didn't know i needed one at that time. so out came the old and i bolted the dash in by itself no bracket and it mounted flush i thought wow that was a piece of cake till i drove it and watched it bounce around so picked up a 97 trans am dash with bracket for $120 i remember test fitting the braket and grinding down some spots and cutting some off so had the bracket in but couldn't find a way to get the bottom corners to mount to the body of the car so i bent them over close as i could and went to wal-mart bought a can of that expanding foam to fill large cracks and holes and worked just like i hoped it would tied them right together stiffened it up and its paintable to can't even see it.

Re: 4th gen dash is in.

hey looks great,I have an 89 formula I would love to do this, but may I ask what you did about the window switches and the mirror switch(if you have electric)being on the center console of the 3rd gen,I see you still have the third gen door panels,so I guess you didnt move them to the door.I have thought about the newer console definately, but I wasn't sure what to do about this?

Re: 4th gen dash is in.

Not an issue for me. I am upgrading to power windows, locks, and mirrors. I am also putting in 4th gen Bird door panels, so everything will be on the appropriate door switches, from the 4th gen.

Re: 4th gen dash is in.

I think it looks awesome. Really, I do. The amount of time and work that something like that takes is beyond my skills, but why on earth would you do that? Why not just buy a 4th gen? Different interiors/exteriors give them each different character. Granted, I have an LT1/t56 in mine, but I dont think that the engine robs character from the car.

To each his own. Good job.

Re: 4th gen dash is in.

I plan to do this because I think that our cars are the best looking cars ever made, honestly. The low-tech interior is not much for my taste, however... I think the 4th gen interior complements the cars better.

yup thats about it but i would lay out some thin cardboard to work with till you got that to fit good before you go and cut up your good dash pad.
