Aftermarket Seat Belt Vendors

Aftermarket Seat Belt Vendors
Hey guys, I can't seem to find anyone who sells aftermarket seat belts for my 1990 Firebird. My car failed inspection for frayed belts, and I called the dealership and they said those belts are discontinued. So I have a couple of questions to ask the experts.
1) Are there vendors that sell seat belts (interested only in fronts) for my year model car? I'll need both the buckle and the shoulder.
2) Are there belts from other generations/cars that are a direct bolt-in which I can use?
I really want to avoid the junk yard for peace of mind. I'd much prefer new parts. I looked at the sponsors for this board, and also Classic Industries catalog, and they seem to skip my year! I've searched the forums and found a wealth of information on how to install them, but not quite the info I need. Help!

Re: Aftermarket Seat Belt Vendors
There are no aftermarket replacement seat belts being currently made for our belts.
Fourth Gen belts can be swapped in but they are a little different.

Re: Aftermarket Seat Belt Vendors
dont use other thirdgen belts, just upgrade to 4th gen belts, they're a easy bolt in (a little mod required), but I spent $50 trying to get thirdgen belts that work, then I wised up and bought a $10 pair of 4th gen ones on ebay, they work great.

I was reading about the 4th gen seatbelts you used in 3rd gen car. I would like to go that way also. What kind of mod was necessarry to make the switch.
Thank you for your help.

Did you ever fix your hatchback and the water yet? I am just about ready to use the urethane and seal mine.
I saw your post on the seatbelts, which I need. This might be stupid but what is "nos".
Also, I was reading about the 4th gen seatbelts into 3rd gen cars. Supposedly they work much better. What do you think about that? If good, do you know what mods need to be done to adapt the 4th gen into my 82 camaro.
Hope all is well.

I've got a new seal........and I also have some urethane, and I will run a bead of it across the leading edge of the window/decklid junction to be on the safe side!! If that doesn't fix it, I'll just take it all apart, and make it better than factory!!
Factory is basically just a thin rubber strip, and some urethane anyways!!
I did trace the leak to the seal, and the fact that the water was getting into the urethane in the plastic transition pieces at the edge of the window, running down my seal, and then leaking into the well area from the rear!!!
I would have fixed it awhile ago, but the weather isn't cooperating, it needs to warm up some more!!
NOS means New Old Stock, in otherwords it's still "new", and nobody has used it yet, but it was made like 20 years or so ago!!
What is wrong with your seat belts???

They weren't retracting very well. I used WD40 and lubed them up good and they work fine now. They are good. But I could use a new receiver for each but black is hard to find. Hawks has only grey and they are around $145 each, even though wrong color.
I just got some urethane the other day. I am going to try to get it done this weekend myself. I will also do the black transition piece that you told me about on each side, just to be safe.
Any ideas where I might get a used or new seat belt recelver?

Re: Aftermarket Seat Belt Vendors
Hello MBH!!
The transition piece just needs a good squirt of the urethane so that it seals underneath of it, and around the edge of it, this will keep any water that makes it there from leaking out of there!!
Don't pull the transition piece off, just pull at the edge a bit to get the urethane under it!!
Make sure that the urethane is dry around the transition piece before you close the hatch, or you could end up with a bit of a messy problem!!
