hatch shade restore

i have a hatch shade for my 89 gta and it works great. the problem is that it's all faded and now looks purple instead of black. is there anyway to make it black again. i thought about trying to find another one, but mine is just fine except for the color.
any suggestions?

Re: hatch shade restore

Use some fabric upholstery spraypaint. Available online, or at local hobby shop. I just used this stuff on some sun faded seats. Worked GREAT !! Cost is around $13. a can.

Dying it is the only way. If you use the spray in dye, youll need to keep it unfurelled for a few days. Having it rolled up and the heat dont mix

Re: hatch shade restore

True, it is best to spray outside of car and let dry for a couple of days. The only bad thing about the paint, is I have to go to Hobby Lobby to get it. (all little old ladies in hobby lobby, not a man's store)

Re: hatch shade restore

i just bought some black fabric spray dye and was trying this not even a half hour ago... it doesn't seem to be penetrating enough to make it a true black... we'll see after it dries though.

what brand have you guys been using?

Re: hatch shade restore

The brand is "Simply Spray" Fabric Upholstery Paint. We get it at Hobby Lobby. It is available on ebay or I think they have a web site. Stuff covers real good, and the results are amazing.

Re: hatch shade restore

i used dupl-color fabric spray on mine , worked pretty good . just clean well , dry well , and spray on . you will have to give it two or more coats for full coverage . got mine at advance auto .
