3rd or 4th?

so i need a new driver's seat really badly, and the passenger seat could probably use some sprucing up....would it be better to get 4th gen seats or 3rd gen...i kinda like the 3rd but does the 4th offer more support at all? ive never sat in a 4th gen at all
thanks

Re: 3rd or 4th?

I say go with the 4th gen seats. I like mine way better then the stock 83'. Check my thread out here https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...gen-seats.html.

Re: 3rd or 4th?

I personally feel that the 3rd and 4th gen seats are equally comfortable, even the base 3rd gen seats. I can go on a long distance trip in any of them with no troubles.

Re: 3rd or 4th?

I would have chosen the 4th gen seats if I hadn't found my 82 viscount seats (sometimes called PMDs) these are the most comfortable of the 3rd gen seats made IMO. however, when the TA's complete I'm going to get a camaro, and that one's getting 4th Gen seats.
I couldn't stand the later base seats, too hard and scratchy for my taste.

Re: 3rd or 4th?

The fourth gen seats "squeek" a lot; At least the Camaro versions do ! I'm not talking about metal to metal squeek,........ I mean the foam inside them make a lot of niose when you sit in the seat. I've had 3 sets from 93-95 and they all did the same thing !

I've talked and seen a few that have swapped in the 4th gen seats (really easy by the way) and they've all been really happy with them.

Mine don't and they came out of a badly smashed 4th gen camaro. But they are 97' (30th edition seats) and leather that could be why.

4th gen seats are much more comfortable than my stock leather/cloth 88 Iroc seats. I put a set of 2000 z28 leather tan seats in it.

Although I wont lie, for some reason my 83 z28s cloth seats were very comfortable... maybe it was the 25+ years of abuse and wear that made them that way.

Visually, 4th gen looks alot better.
Comfort, thats all up to you.

Shop around, don't get ripped off... and screw those folks trying to sell the seats for 600 or 800+ Dollars. I bought mine in 1-10 (10 being best) a 7-8 Condition, 250 bucks front 2 seats (power) and the rear seats.

Re: 3rd or 4th?

Definitely go with the 4th gen seats. I love them in my 84 T/A. To me they are much more comfortable than my old third gen seats. You can take a look at mine on my cardomain site.
