on a 90-92 f-body with air bags, did you leave the airbag clock spring in place? I want to keep it and was wondering if it was neccessary that I remove it to put a Grant wheel on or not.

My car didn't have an airbag, but I'm guessing you would have to remove all airbag components if you're going to an aftermarket steering wheel...
Re: Those of you that installed a steering wheel...
I am not sure...because after I pulled my airbag wheel off I can see that the clock spring sits flush with the edge of the column housing so I think it might be cool the way it is. I just wanted to check before I buy a new wheel.

pretty sure you can just leave it there, if you don't want the airbag light on all the time you can solder in a resistor to the wires on the clockspring so it thinks the bags still there, if ya do that you might even be able to get it to pass inspection if they don't realize the car came with a bag

Re: Those of you that installed a steering wheel...
they say bags have an average life span of like 14 years i read somewhere, what are these people supposed to do (legal wise) with their assumed malfunctioning systems when they get that old, especially something that is working 16 years like his 91? There has to be some limitations to this, not to mention i wouldn't want a first generation airbag in my car if i had it, the system doesn't impress me.

I installed a grant wheel in my 92. I removed the clock spring in mine. But this causes the adapter to rub the top of the column. Went to hardware store and bought a large 3/16" thick washer. Drilled three holes using the adapter ring as a template. Installed all parts, works perfect. Good luck
Re: Those of you that installed a steering wheel...
I removed the airbag in my 91 GTA
Took the little clock thingy out too
I put an older T/A wheel in and it rubbed a little
The washer trick worked for me too
To get around the airbag light, I just removed it from the cluster
I have an insurance agent friend and he said airbags are only good for 10 years but somehow I still get a 9% airbag discount with my 92 and its original bag
Take it as you will

I installed a wheel with the clockspring in mine, and I dont know if it was too tight or what, but the clockspring kept winding, ground itself out, and started smoking. Sooo, I pulled it out, and trimmed the collar with a dremel to get it all to fit.
