lightweight/tubbed rear project for 85
lightweight/tubbed rear project for 85
alright, so the plan is as follows:
remove the rear seats, why it even came with it is a mystery
build myself a rollcage, i work at a shop so unlimited access to tubing and welders
pretty basic right? heres where it gets a little more difficult
planning on pulling that stupid little 60L tank from underneath, incorporating a 140L gas tank inside where the rear seats used to be.
now the common issue with pretty much all thirdgens is where to put the dual exhaust. i think i may have solved it.
this car will be pretty much straight track by the time im done with it (already pulls in a 8-9 second 1/4 mile, compared to 17 when i bought it)
since it will be track only, the pipes will actually enter the interior of the car, cross over the axle, mufflers will be inside the car since the 2 i have are from a company that no longer exists and i dont want them to rot out, and tailpipes will exit out the stock location. as it stands, iv priced everything out, i can do this all for about 50 bucks. obviously, being that my budget is 1000, there is room for imporvement. any thoughts or ideas? and yes, the exhaust would have tons of insulation inside the car.

Gas tank INSIDE?
There goes any track letting you run, unless you build a wall between the tank and your interior.

and i don't see him getting single digits while over doubleing his fuel tank. Other than that like stephen said you need some barrier from the gas tank, maybe build a ferarri style "firewall" seperating out the back from the front completely, which would also set up good with the exhaust so that heat and fumes don't come to the front as much. But with 8-9 second!? i'd like to see how that body is built, pulling 8-9 seconds and you haven't put a roll bar in there yet?! thats asking for a disaster and if those are some real figures, you should be pushing 140-150+ mph, what track is letting you on without a cage, helmet, 5 point harness, ect.???
At least he's putting a berlinetta to good use :-p

That's the first time I've heard of someone putting mufflers inside a car to keep them from rotting, on a track car to boot
