Question on carpeting
I know plenty of you have replaced carpeting, but has anyone taken notice to why the carpet seems to be lumpy on the rear seat trans tunnel? I don't remember seeing them so lumpy back in the day, but see them at shows and on the road all the time. Is the jute backing deteriorating? I am just curious as I've even seen low mile cars with this.

Well then, I don't feel so bad my aftermarket carpet I just put in looks like that. Don't like it but, what do you do?
Re: Question on carpeting
I think the carpet in the back of my car is fine (no rear seats probably makes a difference), but the carpet in the front is a little lumpy, I should look into that. Thanks for the reminder

Re: Question on carpeting
i ended up with a little extra slack in the carpet on the tunnel too, i was able to work most if it down under the rear seats. looks fine
Re: Question on carpeting
i havent taken the carpet out of my car yet, but does it have that black rubberish soundproofing that is stuck to the body like alot of cars do? if so maybe it is that stuff deteriorating or cracking

Maybe heat given off over time from the transmission? We all know cotton shrinks in the wash machine when hot water is used because of the heat. I don't know what carpet is made of though.
