4th gen Camaro Firebird console differences??
Does anyone know if there are any significant differences in the Camaro and Firebird/TA 6 speed center consoles. I'm lookin' to put one in my 91 Firebird and wanna know if they 4th gen Camaro consoles are the same and will fit fairly easy like the Firebird/TA ones are supposed to. Anyone have any input on this?

Re: 4th gen Camaro Firebird console differences??
The 93-96(97?) Camaro consoles will not fit in the thirdgen (unless you have a matching 4th gen dash).
All year bird and 98+ camaro consoles will fit.

Re: 4th gen Camaro Firebird console differences??
There are 3 main styles:
93-96 Camaro (which as has been stated is not a direct swap, requires custom fabbing to look/fit right)
93-96 Firebird (my personal choice, cleaner look, what I put in my Formula)
97-02 Camaro/Firebird (Same center console Available in either Black or Gray)
Only real current pic of my Formula's interior with the console:

lt1 center consoles from camaros arnt direct swaps? What exactly needs to be fab'ed to make em work. I got a guy coming right now to trade my 4th gen wheels to for a lt1 center and a 4th gen rear. I may have just traded for a white elephant

Re: 4th gen Camaro Firebird console differences??
just a quick question on fitting, I have a 85 z28, the radio pod and console is one piece, will the radio pod from a third gen TA bolt in along with the forth gen center console?
I have been thinking about doing the swap and finding that most of these conversions are with TA's and firebirds.

Re: 4th gen Camaro Firebird console differences??
quick question, is the 5 speed and 6 speed center console boot the same? anyone know?
so i found this
so i am guessing they are the same?
so i found this
Get a console from a 97+ car......You WILL need a manual plate......
The 5 and 6 six consoles are the same, either will work, the ONLY difference is the shift pattern........
Comes with 4 cupholders and 2 extra cigarette lighters......A place to mount switches.....
Here is a pic of mine installed with some cutting to make the 3rd Gen radio pod to work
Any more questions just ask.......

Re: 4th gen Camaro Firebird console differences??
also is there any differense from the auto and manuel consoles to wether or not you have an auto or manuel. I have a stock 700r4 now but in the future will have a t56 but would hate to have to have 2 differnt consloles
Re: 4th gen Camaro Firebird console differences??
i have a 94 camaro console in my ta. fits perfect but there is a gap between the radio and the console itself. (i was thinking of putting gauges or something there, idk yet) yes, 4th gen consoles will fit on a third gen but make sure its eather a firebird/transam/formula console. like i said before, the camaro one will fit but will leave a gap.
make sure you get a manuel shifter boot too. ill show a pic of mine when i have a chance.

Re: 4th gen Camaro Firebird console differences??
apparently I need to read more often. I goofed and got a 93-96 Camaro auto console from the junk yard today (since that was all I could find for 4th get cars. I kinda figured I'd be in for some work using an auto setup instead of the manual, but I'm up for a challenge. We'll see what happens....

Manual consoles will work good in an Auto car.
My 87 (700R4) GTA came stock with a manual style boot with a slider indicator along the side.
At a glance, it looks like a Manual car.

Re: 4th gen Camaro Firebird console differences??
So a quickly update here. Played around with the console yesterday. As previously stated (here and elsewhere), the early Camaro auto console is not drop in and go. You should be able to see from the next couple pics why.

(don't mind the mold; the car was horribly covered in it when I got it a couple weeks back, still trying to clean it all out).
There is a very large gap between the radio and the console. What you cannot see is the fun I had trying to fit the shift plate. Is it worth the struggle and aggrevation to make this setup look good? Your call, your time, your money. I may have a lead on a manual Firebird console for cheap, we'll see what happens.

If all goes well, I should have an LT1 firebird console arriving before the weekend. Definitely will have some pics asap.
Re: 4th gen Camaro Firebird console differences??
another 4th gen console question. . . .
i used a 2002 fiirebird console. (pics of how to do the swap)
It is great. way better then old box **** console. dont miss it at all
easy swap with a manual. if you have common sence how to use an automatic without looking to know where u are its easy.
who ever says the console wont fit without a dash is wrong. just need a firebird pod.
looks like a manual
only negative thing is that every1s in awhile the radio pods trim will pop lose on one side. (not a big deal)

Re: 4th gen Camaro Firebird console differences??
I am in need of a console myself and am curious how much of a hassle it would be to use an automatic console in my 85. I have a megashifter and i know i can disasimble it to get the console around but anyone using the auto ones?

My 87 GTA STOCK console, came with a manual style leather boot, on the 700R4 handle. Looks like a manual from the outside.

Re: 4th gen Camaro Firebird console differences??
they do. the console compartment and lid sits higher than a 3rd gen's.
Re: 4th gen Camaro Firebird console differences??
what are you talking about lol. the shift area of a 4th gen console is basicaly the same height as my seats. the console sits low. If your talking about the storage area i think they are just about right. feel freaking comfortable. if you dont beleve me look at my sig link and youll see exactly how it sits.

WHAT
the one Dan posted looks almost 2 inches higher from the seatbelt.
I wonder how he's going to make that console work anyway.

Re: 4th gen Camaro Firebird console differences??
I have given up on making this one fit; as mentioned before, I ordered up a manual console to get things done with less work. To get the shifter to work right and line up with the console cover, there is a lot of trimming/adjusting/massaging needing to be done. Not a challenge I feel like spending the time on currently with so many other things in need of doing (like a motor swap).

3rdgenIroc, did you use a shifter cover i looked at your cardomain but couldnt see. Im interested in trying this out with an automatic one and trying to lower my megashifter to get it to fit in there.
