I'll have to look through the literature I picked up at the '07 SEMA show. I saw a company displaying just such a product for the manual tranny equipped cars. As I recall the display showing the gear was in the shift ****, but they may have had a separate dash mounted display too.

I posted this in your other thread.
I'm making my own right now for my T5 with a hurst shifter. Prototype is done and works great, just waiting for the warm weather to do the final install.
My setup displays the gear you're in on a seven segment display placed where the cigarette lighter goes. I also made it into a digital shift light for a little more functionality, blinking the gear display at the rpm of your choice.
I'm using 4 switches for the 5 gears and reverse, with a microcontroller to handle the switches, led display, and the signal from the distributer for the shift light.
