Fog Light Switch

While I'm doing my switch install for my power windows / hatch, i'm also going to be putting in my foglight switch. has anyone wired a stock switch to aftermarket foglights? Is there a diagram somewhere, I assume I can just cut the 'stock plug' and make it work by putting power and ground to it, but I just want to make sure. Whos done this?! thanks!

I added stock fog lights to mine. Had to add the switch. Wiring minus the relay was under the dash. If you had the stock fog lights, and the plugs are there it should be no problem to rewire. I do have wiring diagrams for a 92 camaro. I would have to scan them.

The following is a diagram from an 86. It might be helpful:

Re: Fog Light Switch

I think what he wants to do is wire the aftermarket lights (which has three prongs) to a OEM fog switch (that has 5 prongs). I would like the same info because my aftermarket fogs work fine but I would love to wire the factory switch.

Just for general info, there are two factory switches, one of which is illuminated, the second of which is not. The lighted version has four "prongs" and the other three, IIRC.

exactly what i'm trying to do. I'm not sure about how many wires are on the switch and the fog lights. I haven't gotten chance to really look over everything yet.

Does anyone know if the plug that goes into the back of the switch is located in all cars even if they didn't come with fog lights? Where would I find it if it is? I assume if I can get that plug, I can cut the wires, and just hard wire it into a ground and fuse box, but I just want to be sure.

Thanks for all the replies!

My 92 had the plug there. I just bought the factory switch, the cover where the factory switch goes just pops out on the 92. the plug is nearby there taped to the harness. The socket for the relay is also under the dash near the column. I just bought the relay and plugged it in. I did have to run the wires from the firewall to the foglights.

Re: Fog Light Switch

My 1992 I used a stock switch and aftermarket lights. Ran the power to the switch from the fuse block, which illuminated the switch, and sends power to a relay under the hood. The relay under hood supplies power to the fog lamps from the fusible link block by the battery - so the big juice is pulled from under the hood, and not in the cabin. Thus, when I turn switch on, the switch illuminates, and power is sent on a small wire through firewall and under hood to a relay, which is switched on supplying power from the fusible link block (big wires) to the foglamps.

Re: Fog Light Switch

I found the plug buried up in my dash all taped up like you guys said it would be. It has a black wire, purple wire, light blue wire, and i want to say yellow (i think)

now heres my question... who knows what each of these wires does. I want to cut them off the harness and just hardwire them. I know how to wire them, i just need to know what wire is what. thanks!

Re: Fog Light Switch

I know the 91-92 camaros have the plug for the fog light switch already to go.Its usually taped up behind the headlight switch. The 85-87 camaros have a seperate harness and do not have the plug unless the car came with foglights. Not sure about the 88-90 camaros

The wiring for the fog light switch is around the bottom right of the schematic.
