Re: 145 mph cluster / speedo
I just pulled the speedo out of the cluster, pulled off the little clip, and removed the odometer reel. Then just swapped my original odometer into the new speedo. Takes about 30 minutes to disassemble, swap, and reassemble.

Use a pencil eraser end and roll the digits to wherever you need them

That won't work, at least on 82-90 gauges. The numbers are locked in place, probably to prevent tampering. I don't think it will work on any gauge cluster, but I have never tried it on the later models so I can't say for sure.

Mine musta been broken then cause it worked. oh well. It was either my 86 Firebird or Trans Am, dont remember which one. Probobly the Trans Am.
Yup, was the T/A. I had the gauges out and made the dumb mistake of taking a needle off, I couldnt get them back just right so I bought another set. I set the milage as I said before and put the new ones in with white faces on it. Still worked accurately too.
Guess I was lucky.

It depends on what you mean by "work." The numbers can be rolled but the end result is that the first number will never line up correctly. It will always be slightly above or below the rest. It's one way you can tell a speedometer has been rolled.

Re: 145 mph cluster / speedo
today i received the cluster after shipping period and it was hard to roll the numbers on the odometer at first but after 10 mins playing i got in mind that every number you set you have to use some masking tape and put them in line and set the plates between the rolls parallel exactly to the desired milage numbers and as soon you set all the numbers there is a small plastic with squareish holes (yellow plastic) so it keeps your metal linings in line to put again in the plastic speedo carrier!!
after all this work double check everything and with some help with a driller in reverse motion instead of a drill put a small broken alankey and swith on and you can see if left over 3 or 4 mins driving the speedo that all the numbers are horizontally lined even!
if not dismantle again ,put again masking tape to those that are correctly even and relocate those that thay arent!
any help let me know because may be my english is not that good!!!
