I would wire it up so you can disable the lock-up convertor function.

Re: Ideas for shift **** button?
Hi Im new to the 3rd gen community. I just bought a 89 Trans AM GTA with the 5.7 and need to replace a bunch of stuff.... I would like to know what is the best way to get a new shifter? The button on the shift **** is loose and I can pull between R and OD without using the button at all. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Ja... Im a noob.... the shifter worked fine once I got in and worked it a little. The leather on the **** is ripping tho, so eventually I would like to replace it, if that is possible.

Perrypam, or "moderndaymuscle" as they call themselves nowadays, have new shifters. I just got one myself, cant beat brand new leather. They cost $124 though, but you can get a rubber one for like $20-30.
