custom overhead console
so i was in my buddies jeep the other day and noticed that he had an overhead locking console mounted between his windshield and roll bar.
it contained a CB radio and a sony radio
i was wondering if anyone here had any advice or experience making a similar console for a camaro that would mount on the t-top pillar.

Re: custom overhead console
If your fabrication skills are up to it, it wouldn't be that hard to make one, or adapt that one into your car.

Re: custom overhead console
yeah, I don't think it'll be hard to do at all. But I think you'd have to mount your rearview lower in the windshield. I have an OEM overhead console and I can see it in the rearview, any bigger and it would get in the way...

Re: custom overhead console
I found one today in a berlinetta that just showed up at the junkyard. I'd never even thought of an overhead console in a thirdgen until I noticed that. I went ahead and got it. It has the little roller-date thingy, swivel map light, pocket, and dome light.
I'll see what I can do with it if I can mount it in my firebird.

Re: custom overhead console
so I'm guessing your console didn't have the flashlight? Its behind the dome light, facing the map pocket... I've always wanted to do something different with the numerical rollers. Maybe remove them and install switches or something...

Re: custom overhead console
well if anyone has any ideas, toss em my way.
i would rather not weld to the ceiling support if possible.
i was thinking of possibly bolting it in place of the headliner.
idk.
it would also be a great place for a radar detector...
too bad VA outlaws them

Re: custom overhead console
actually that might be a good place for mine... right now its hanging bellow the rearview (custom mount)... If I had an SUV it'll be a good place for a rearview camera screen. I'd like to find a small info console to put there that has the time, and temps and such....

Re: custom overhead console
I'm thinking the same thing. I was wanting to install some windown switches (and possibly the mirror switch) from the mid-00's GMC/Chevy trucks. The switches from those trucks have auto-up and auto-down functionality, and they have a hooked shape to them. You could mount them upside down facing either direction. I'm not a master-fabricator, but I think it shouldn't be a relatively difficult install. Its just a matter of cutting the wheels out and fabricating a panel to mount over the switches. I'll do it eventually. Right now its on the backburner. Any inputs?
