Re: 87 Camaro with 4th gen console with pics

I only know how to do links so deal with me. Ok so in this pic is the old console compared to the new console.. i cut out the radio area of the old console to try and use it on the new console didnt work.

http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...jpg?021521-249

The best way to attack the radio area is to just buy a firebird radio pod. I got my from Hawks for $104.95(includes firebird pod and cover) and got it less then a week

http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...jpg?371521-249

So i had the console in the car and tried to get the radio pod to fit but it didnt go in right so i took the console out and tried getting the pod in and noticed there are 2 vents in the way(circled in red in the pic) and do you think i need to cut them off so the pod fits in it? thats basically were im at.

Re: 87 Camaro with 4th gen console with pics

Hey man thanks for starting this thread... I was waiting on someone to create a thread showing pics of the conversion for the third gen camaros, so I could get a baseline on how to do it... I mean, I knew a radio pod would be needed, but I would have never thought those vents would be in the way... Hell I didnt even know they were there! Keep updating and getting pics man!

Re: 87 Camaro with 4th gen console with pics

Maybe its like putting a 2007 corvette dash in a camaro... everyone talks about it, but I've yet to see it!!! LOL Usually I see them in firebirds, but not camaro's. You would think someone would have pics of the swap.... I want to see it too, been thinking about doing it in my 86 IROC.... I want to see how the radio pod matches up with the dash...

THANK YOU, for starting this thread!!
Good luck and post more pics as you go along!!

Re: 87 Camaro with 4th gen console with pics

ok so you dont need to trim off the air flow vents from the dash that were circled in red all you have to do is unscrew a air flow thing from the pod in the pic im holding what gets unscrewd.

http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...jpg?085521-250

Then in order to get your air control switch to fit youll have to unscrew the metal holder from the back of the switches off as shown in the pic

http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...jpg?315021-250

And in order to get the air switch to fit your gonna have to trim off a little extra screw hole as shown in the pic below, the extra screw hole is in my hand.

Re: 87 Camaro with 4th gen console with pics

Hey im on the second day and here are the new pics.

This pic shows that the console box bolts line up

http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...jpg?151023-250

The next pic is the window switch plate i made for the ashtray although i dont know what im going to do about the hatch release.

http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...jpg?151023-250

The 2 next pics are how the console it self looks and the 2nd link will show how the buttons look although my left button broke so i had to take it out made me almost tear

http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...jpg?151023-250

http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...jpg?151023-250

i forgot to take a pic while working on this but the shift plate needs to be moved forward all the way forward so in the pic the blue circles show were the shift plate screws would be.

You might be able to move the hatch release to the left side of the steering wheel on the dash, thats where its at in my gf's trans am. Oh and what hood is that? Cowl?

Re: 87 Camaro with 4th gen console with pics

Is it not possible to get the radio pod to be straight and lined up with the console and dash? Or is it just the lighting or something

Re: 87 Camaro with 4th gen console with pics

Thats what im trying to work on. i just trimmed some of the console on the left side to try to even it out. im still working on it. But if it doesnt even out im just going to cut some wood or something to put over the pod so its not noticeable. To be Honest you really dont notice it when your driving unless you look at it really good.
