Best Way to Remove the Shifter ****?

I need to remove just the shifter **** on a Camaro (mainly so I could just put it on mine) and I'm faced with 2 problems at the moment.

One, I couldn't take the plate that surrounds the **** without cracking it.
Two, I couldn't figure out what to do to remove the shifter ****.

I tried unscrewing it, and the top COVER came off, revealing another button...
Any help would be appreciated.

there is a clip in the front side of it that you need to pry out with a small flathead screwdriver. then it justs pulls right off.

No, it is about midway down the shifter ****. You will see a slot in the shifter head/****. I used an angled pick. Once the clip is out, you may have to pull the **** straight up with some force. We are talking about an automatic, I assume.

Yep
So the clip is in the head of the shifter ****, but I don't see it...Can I see it easily, is it the top, left, right or bottom side of the ****?

Move your shifter ALL the way to 1st gear.

The clip is in the middle of the ****, about halfway down, on the FRONT. It's more of a "feel for it thing" than actually being able to see it easily.

Take the clip too. You never know when you may need one.

Re: Best Way to Remove the Shifter ****?

Perfect advice, thanks for all the posts
The clip is pretty small, was kind of skeptic that I'd even find it

I thought I had to push in the clip (which definitely doesn't make sense now), but when I pushed, it slipped to the top and came out when I pulled out the screwdriver (luck..)
With barely a little force the **** just popped out! Went back for the clip too...

Thanks for the replies though!
