ACC/ACS Carpet?
I need to buy new carpet, and I've been reading a lot about the problems with ACC carpet. I know that they recently bought out ACS, which is what many people were using. Has ACC carpet improved at all, or is there another aftermarket carpet choice?

Re: ACC/ACS Carpet?
I just recently installed the ACC Premium (Essex) carpet and have no complaints. I haven't noticed any fading (I live in CA with no tint on my windows), and it was pretty easy to install. I just cut the holes out for the shifter and the e-brake and cut slits for the seat bolts to poke through. The only other trimming I remember doing was along the sides so that the carpet would fit under the door sill trim piece.
I bought my carpet on ebay for $405 shipped (premium with mass-backing).

When you rec'd the carpet, are you saying there were no holes?
In other words, you had to use the old carpet as a template?
I am just wondering how these new carpets arrive in case I should ever order one in the future.
Thx
Ron

They come as one solid piece. Don't rip out your old carpet. See if you can get it out in one piece and then use it as a template. I stripped the old backing from my carpet and glued it back down to the floor. I then put the new carpet in. Just for a little added soundproofing.

I didn't have any problems doing it this way and never cut more than was needed.

I am thinking of going with the carpet and mats for this site: www.autocarpetonline.com
They have a lot more options than the others, but you are going to pay for it.

Re: ACC/ACS Carpet?
i did not use the old carpet as a template. I folded it in half [length ways] and put it in to see how much extra carpet i had then i marked the middle and made a slit in it to put over the break and shift lever. then i kept making the slit larger and larger as i did a fitting for the carpet front and back.
when i got it about right i cut the hole as big as i needed so that i could put all the console stuff back down. but i left it sitting over night and put a heater in the car to get it good and hot so that it would settle down into the premoulded form and then did the final fitting. plan on spending an entire day at it and if you have any wiring to add do it then, which is what i did. i replaced the air conditioning control box - refit the stero and replaced all the air vents, plus wired the new leather seats - which are both power and both also have air lumbar support.
i also added in some other electrical stuff, which was easy to do without the underside of the dash and no carpet.
one thing you will find is that people you had work on the car before, did some real crap to it. i have owned this one since it was brand new in 90 and im sinding wires connected to nothing, all kinds of crap.
good lick - just take your time.

Re: ACC/ACS Carpet?
I bought an ACC carpet off Ebay 2 years ago. I had to cut holes for the seat mounting studs and enlarge the hole for the shifter but it went in with no trouble. It has the thick vinyl foot pads molded into the proper places. If I were to do it again I would take Tony_'s advice to leave it sit over night to settle.
I was concerned about fading. The brown carpet that I replaced (unknown manufacturer - not OEM) was not old but had turned green from sun damage. So far though, this black one has not faded any. If you find a deal on an ACC carpet I wouldn't hesitate.
