Steering Column Question
Hello All,
So I dove in over the weekend to tighten up my steering column on my 90 IROC. I know that the previous owner had the column in and out before. I noticed there is a small metal rod on the lower left side that has been zip tied. Can anyone tell me what that does? There is crack underneath the column as well. Also, the high beam function on the blinker stalk never worked and is very loose. Had about 1 inch play forward and back. I know there was a piece missing directly in front of the stalk. Does anyone know what piece is missing.
2 pictures attached for reference. Any help or comments would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Steering Column Question
That zip tied rod is the high beam actuator rod. It goes down to the high beam switch mounted lower down on the column. The missing piece you mentioned rests on the curved end of the actuator rod in the picture and transfers the motion of the blinker stalk to the rod. When you pull the stalk towards you it pushes on this piece, which in turn, pushes the rod. Here's a few pic's to show the missing piece and (I think) how it fits into the column housing piece:

Hope that helps.
EDIT:
I was thinking you meant the little piece that pushes on the rod. However, maybe you mean the piece of the housing that goes in front of the stalk. In the picture that is the bottom left item, with the actuator piece installed. If you need additional pictures, let me know. I have a bunch of column parts laying around in easy access...

Hope that helps.

EDIT:
I know there was a piece missing directly in front of the stalk.

Re: Steering Column Question
Thanks so much. I'm missing both pieces. Are you interested in selling any of your spare parts? Do you know where I might be able to find them?

If I dont have what you need, I'm sure someone in the classifieds forum on here will. Or, if you have a junkyard nearby...
Good luck!
