Hatch Release
Hey guys,
I asked this question a while ago over the summer, but never got an answer, and ended up putting the project on hold. I want to finish this now so i'm going to ask again hopefully having more success this time!!
I'm looking for the relay that pops the power hatch from the switch. I got all the new parts for the latch in the back and have the switch installed. I was told there is a relay under the center console that needs to be installed, but I dont know where. It's a 91 Camaro RS. Does anyone know exactly where this relay would go, and any pictures would be great!!!
Thanks a lot!

Re: Hatch Release
i just post a question on what all i need to install the hatch release...lol. what all did you need to do the electric hatch release? have you tried following the wires to see where the relay should be? i havent looked much at the wires but i do have most of my interior out. i will look tonight and see if i can see where it should go for you.

Re: Hatch Release
I looked around under the console with a mirror and flash light, but had no luck. short of rippin out the console it seems like its MIA!! hopefully you can find it with your interior out.
I had to get a solenoid that acts as the release in the rear. There is currently a manual one on your car, you will need to get a power one. besides that, I think thats all that needs to be done. or so i've been told.

Re: Hatch Release
no luck yet....i followed the orange wire from the plug in the center console all the way to the fuse panel. the brown wire with white stripe i loose when it goes under the dash into the wire harness. that wire will go to the relay and then turns into a black wire that goes to the hatch. so i will pull the plastics out of the trunk tonight after work and try to follow it from there and see what i can find for you. i would assume there is probably a relay already in the car for it since all the wires seem to be.

Re: Hatch Release
1. Chase down the relay under the DASH... passenger's side, near the midddle (at least that's where mine was). If you don't have a rear defroster, the plug you are looking for (if it doesn't have the relay already installed like mine did) DOES NOT have 2 connections in one unit.... It's just a standard 4 wire relay plug.
2. The heavy BLACK wire running off of the relay is what you need to extend to the rear for your release solenoid. More than likely, you won't find the bugger in the rear wiring for some reason, so just run a decent gauge wire back there and connect up your solenoid.

Re: Hatch Release
wow... That seems like it will be quite difficult without pulling most of the interior! Thanks for the help tho! hopefully I can find it and figure it out too!
