Installed 4th gen seats in my 89!!

These seats are out of a 97 Firebird. So much better than the 3rd gen seats.

Re: Installed 4th gen seats in my 89!!

Looks great, and blends in so well. That's going to be one of the first mods I do to my interior. My problem is that I've got a burgundy interior...

Re: Installed 4th gen seats in my 89!!

4th gen seats are hands down the easiest mod and a near direct fit. I am lucky enough to get them for $50 a set from my local yard and have done the swap 3 time already, even leather

Re: Installed 4th gen seats in my 89!!

I swapped the 4th gen front seats in, but left the stock rears for the split rear back cushions. The tans are such a close match, if not the exact same, I can't tell any difference in the colors.

That does look good. I paid 800 for a set a couple of years ago. You cant even find them here (Phx, AZ) in good shape unless you are willing to pay a fortune for them. I'm jealous! LOL

Sexy interior!

So direct bolt on? I can get some leather ones out of an 2001 SS right now. Only the pass side has a tear in the middle. Which is much better than I can say for my current third gen seats.

That looks good. I have been considering doing the console swap myself.

I actually bought mine off ebay. I searched around for about a month till I finally found these. Cost me alittle extra because of shipping but still well worth it.

Thanks Strocked, I used an auto console and it still needs some fine tuning, I heard the manual console are easier. Later.

I don't know about anywhere else, but 4th gen seats pop up on craigslist pretty regularly here in DFW. I've seen several sets in good condition acvertised for $75 - $125, front and rear.

Great seats. A new set of black carpet would really set off those seats.

Man that looks good in there. How easy or hard is it to put a set of power seats from an 01 in a 90 GTA?

Thanks!! The seats from the 01 should bolt directly into the 90 then you will just have run some wiring from the power switches on the seats to the fuse box. Not to difficult at all.

Are the wiring harnesses for the 4th gen power seats a direct fit for the 3rd gen harness? Should I expect to be able to replace my power 3rd gen seats with 4th gen seats simply by disconnecting the old seats and hooking up the new ones? Has anyone done this? Thanks!

Hey, Lowell,

'Bout time you added some class to your ride (you were giving thirdgens a bad name )! There is/was a set of gray leather seats on craigslist in the KS area, IIRC, that looked very cool. Got the car back together?

Oh, by the way, I drove the Jeep through Tongie and DIDN'T get a ticket. I'm a happy boy.

Sorry but I am not sure about this. I didnt have power seats originally. I would think worse case senario you may have to splice the 4th gen harness from the seats into your 3rd gen harness but I cant say for sure.

Hey James,

Yeah I know I am such a slacker!! Wish I would have seen those seats. A set of Leather seats would have been sweet. But I am very happy with the seats I did get. Big improvement.

Yep car is all back together just in time to put it in winter storage. But atleast shes ready for next summer now!!

Very nice. I am so proud of you for not getting a ticket. Your just growing up so fast.

Yep the 4th gen seats are a direct bolt in. No adjustments or modifications just bolt them in and go.

Awesome mod. Do the seats blend well during a ride? $50/set is cheap

My car now has power leather seats and the only thing I had to do for wiring was swap the pinouts from the 3rd gen powerseat harn. to match the 4th gen plug.

Re: Installed 4th gen seats in my 89!!

Glad to hear it can be done easily. Did you eliminate the 3rd gen plug end of the wiring harness and use both male and female plugs from the 4th gen or did you mate the 3rd and 4th gen plugs?
The seats I purchased only come with the harness that runs from the driver's seat to the passenger's seat. I was hoping to mate my 3rd gen harness to the seats 4th gen plug? Is that what you did?

Re: Installed 4th gen seats in my 89!!

Installed a set of 2002 Trans Am power seats in my 88 GTA last month. The seats come with 1 wiring harness that runs between both seats. Other than that there is 1 two wire (orange and black) hook up that supplies power to the seats. All you have to do to is splice the orange and black wires from the seat harness to the orange and black wires from the car (if you had power seats in your 3rd gen) and it works like magic! Its that easy!

I was worried about the power seats...would they work...would they not...but it was too easy. Connect orange to orange and black to black and enjoy!

Re: Installed 4th gen seats in my 89!!

I got the exact same seats (the original post) in the 88 Trans Am I just bought. The are graphite color, same as the first post.

Does anyone know where I can buy that color / syle fabric? I want to redo my door panels and would like to add fabric to match the seats to get a more factory look.

yourautotrim carries regal silver, but not graphite or dk grey. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow....just wanting to see what others bought.

Do the 4th gen seats sit lower than stock? I have a set in the car I just bought and have a hard time seeing over the hood.....I'm not a midget by any means (5' 6") but another inch or so would be nice.

Yes they do...Which is nice for us 6'5" people....No more head rubbing on the headliner, when I hit bumps in the road.

Re: Installed 4th gen seats in my 89!!

Do the rear seats from the fourth gen fit right into the third gen too? Cause I snatched a pair of front gray cloth fourth gen seats from a totalled car at the junk yard and I know they bolt right in, but the shade is slightly off, so I'm debating getting the rears out of the totalled car as well. Just cause I'm OCD and I need it to match.
