ABS plastic roof liner owner's chime in
I just picked up a mint condition roof liner out of the junk yard, and what struck me by surprise was that it was on a plastic backing, identical shape to the original roof liner. Now i know that they are produced, but every time i see them they are in what appears to be red plastic, i hear that they do not fit that well, and that 90% of the customers are not satisfied with the fit. This one i pulled was perfect, everything lined up, although it looked like it started as one solid piece and maybe the original purchaser created the holes where they needed to be. Only reason I assume this is because the car was out of a Berlinetta, and so they had to make provisions for a roof console, and it looked like they took a pair of dikes to cut out the hole needed, and did a poor job at that. Reason i am asking for owners, what colors did your plastic backing board come in? how thick was it, and was it hard, or did it twist easily (like on a t-top roof liner would if you were to pick it up anywhere else than in the middle).
Mine was white, about a 1/8th of an inch thick, and not terribly solid, seemed flimsy yet sturdy.

Mine was from hawk's. It was dark grey in color, and easy to bend. It fit the car just fine, but is not designed with 4 of the factory headliner clips, it is just held by the visors, dome light, and trim, so it is loose in the middle.

Yea this one seems very similar to what you said, except mine was white, and since it has the roof console, being held up in the middle wasn't a problem. If i may ask, how thick was yours?
Has anyone taken the initiative to do what they did for 4th gen roof liners and use some velcro? Any results?

I got one out of a junkyard car a few years ago.Cost me 6 bucks.Still sitting in my garage. Its hard plastic, not real thick.I believe it was white and had black fabric covering it.Didnt even have to remove it.It was just laying on the trunk of the cadillac next to the camaro

The ones from Hawks come with the pre-cut backing, but mine didn't line up right and I cut all the fabric away, so now I have to re-do it. Either way, the headliners are nice.

Re: ABS plastic roof liner owner's chime in
my wife actually just bought me an abs headliner from eckler's, i asked for it uncovered because my camaro gets used to move large boxs and thats how my original headliner got ripped, when it arrived it was dark grey(you can get it in uncovered black or any color you need if you choose to get it covered), dome light and visor holes are pre cut, center console and map light holes are pre marked but optional to cut if you need them, all i had to do was paint it (i sanded down the marks for the other holes and used an adhesion promoter, and a can of gm med gray vinyl and fabric paint) it turned out beautiful, but i have yet to install it since the weather has been crappy here the past few days, but i am going to install in the morning if the weather is better and let you all know how it fit for me, it came in a box folded up (it was a small box) but the plastic is super bendable yet very strong, i was also thinking of doing the velcro idea, if i go that route i will post my results
ps. the uncovered abs route it cheaper in the long run, and as far as i know looks just as good as a covered abs headliner, im getting the plastic uncovered sail panels next (with the holes for the speakers pre cut) they look sick as well.
hope this helps

I got one from ebay and its pretty good. Except the fabric is a little loose but thats because the glue doesn't like humidity. Mine was loose in the front center but I drilled 2 holes and used factory screws and held it in and it looks pretty good.

Re: ABS plastic roof liner owner's chime in
installed my headliner today, install went rather smoothly, pretty simple and self explanitory, only problem was the sunvisor pre cuts do not lign up well at all (as mentioned by everybody else who has purchased this headliner) i installed them the best i could, all three screws are in i just had to screw through the plastic on the driver side for the last screw, other than that it was fine, and looks as good as i thought an aftermarket uncovered headliner would,
but the one thing i didnt not understand, maybe the previous owner of my camaro re installed it backwards or the dome hole was cut wrong, but i had to install the dome light oposite of what i removed it ( the light was facing the front when i took it off, but i had to put it facing the rear when i put it back or the hole would not have been covered...) was it originally installed facing the rear of the car?
all in all i am satisfied with the fit, its no where near perfect but it looks better than what i had, and i wont be complaining of anything when i get to take the tops off this summer

the light goes to the rear of the car.
ive also heard that if you have a decent motor in the car, these things like to rattle. so some lil rubber adhesive stops may be needed to put between the roof and the liner.

Re: ABS plastic roof liner owner's chime in
thanks for the answer about the dome light, and yes it does rattle even with my stock 305 so i will be adding some velcro and rubber adhesive to mine to keep it tight
