window switch brackets

Im putting a 4th gen center console in and i have done a search and i like the way everyone is putting them in the ashtray so you can close the hatch and it is very stealth looking now my question is what material are you making the bracket out of it, like what type of plastic because i was thinking about using plexy glass(spelling?) and after cutting it out just painting it black or i have an old 93-97 console and cutting it up and making it out of the material that it is made out of. but if anyone has a better idea im all for it thanks in advance

Daniel

Re: window switch brackets

I think I would try to make it out of ABS plastic. Try googling "ABS Plastic Sheets."

Re: window switch brackets

Plexi would work, so would any other plastic. I used a scrap piece of 16 ga. sheet metal that I had laying around. But, I do sheet metal work for a living, so that's the main material that I use for most of my mods.

True...however plastic is also not as strong. I made my first one out of ABS and it worked well for awhile. But it started to flex, and eventually cracked on me.

A nice comprimise between strength and ease of "work-ability" is alum. Thats what I made my current one out of.

Because Im a pic *****....

Textured overlay. MUCH nicer than paint for a piece like this in my opinion.

The aluminum mounts via two long self drilling phillips head screws right down into the console plastic, and I painted them black for looks. It feels much more solid than the last one.

Re: window switch brackets

Well...I have the CAD file SOMEWHERE... I think its at work on my work machine. If it is...Ill send it to ya tomorrow. Shoot me a PM with your email address. What I can do is send it to you ready to print, and when you print it, it'll be 1:1. I can also give you dimensions...but its almost easier to just cut it out and trace it to your material.

Ill get something to you though.

J.
