Just added Headers to 350 5.7 litre

Now I need to lose the smog pump and figure out a few things. First would be how the easiest way to bypass and preferably lose the smog pump. Second I am wondering what anyone has done for brackets for the AC and ??blower?? pump (Its the pump on the drivers side). And third thing is the dipstick and if there is a better way to mount it(I've now just bent the clip back and the stick is sitting there, but not too sturdy)? I'm sure I will have some other dilemas but thats all for today. Just spent the whole day on the Flow Techs which for your information required a bit of grinding and revamping to make them work.

Check for belt routing at the end of the following link:

The ZZ4 dipstick may be what you need:

Removing the air pump on a street vehicle is illegal in all 50 states. What's your reason for thinking it needs to be removed?

Re: Just added Headers to 350 5.7 litre

our cars have smog pumps? that must be the thing in a box on my shelf in the garage.... i was told our cars had cats to i never did find any on my car though. must have fell off my car has headers and has the a/c on the drivers side. i hade to modify the bracket where it goes over the header pipe from cylinder 1. i used a die grinder i think. its been about 8 years since i did it...lol. as for the smog pump, if you can get it passed for inspection and emissions if you have that, just remove it and use some washline string or something like that and run it around the pulleys in place of a belt or belts to measure how long of a belt you need.

The cop who impounds your car isnt going to care that's the way you bought it. The air pump and the catalytic converter need to be there because of federal law, the Clean Air Act.
We out here in SoCal have build several CA smog-legal daily drivers that get 20+ MPG, run 12 second ET's, and put down 350+ RWHP. All while our emissions devices are hooked up and working. Now what's your excuse?

Not trying to start a flame but, what if you buy a new motor that doesnt have smog equipment? Do you "have" to buy that in addition?

comifornia seems to be about the only place to impound cars for that stuff...lol. but without smog pump and cats= more power. and no cats changes the sound. not many people here in pa have that stuff on there factory equipped cars. but thats the joy of modifying your car. you can do what ever you want to do. if it gets you tickets or impounded thats your problem.

Re: Just added Headers to 350 5.7 litre

You're supposed to use your existing emissions parts on your new engine.

The air pump and the stock cat might take up a little horsepower. Replace the stock cat with an aftermarket one and you're looking at 5 less horsepower over no cat. Take the crap weighing you down out of your backseat and trunk and you'll never notice it.
