Ok so after these parts have collected and nice layer of dust and the weather is finally getting decent im hoping to get this project underway and im hoping posting this will inspire me to get started lol!

first the car as she sits hasnt moved in awhile almost a year


started ripping apart the interior i havent seen much of the floor boards on this camaro but i was pleasently surprised that there really wasnt that much only 2 or 3 holes all the way threw btw the old dash is for sale


now for the dash its a 02 ss i think or a 00

 

I was lucky and got more wiring then ill probably ever need everything is there with most of the connectors too only a few things cut




main reason i went with the 98 up dash is the cluster is straight hot



And heres the door panels and pillars when i get to them everythings is great shape thanks too Aaron91rs



Ill post up more pics as the swap gets underway! hopefully the wiring wont be too much trouble im mostly worried about the HVAC i cant find much info on that.

 

Looks great but what are you going to do with your crank windows when you replace the door panels?

 

Same type of dash I used in mine, except out of a 97. From what I've read about the 98 and up clusters is that unless your going full LSx swap it is a pain, but I suppose that depends on your own fab and electric skills. I liked the LS1 (98-02) dash better than the LT1 (93-97) dash. GM must of had us in mind cause of the 97 dash is the same except for color as 98 up dashes. I found all my info here back in 06 and am sure more has been added. I tried to add what I did to make the 4th gen HVAC controls work, not real clear in my post but I got a fully functional HVAC. And i wasnt aware they had a 97 that looked the same but yes the car is getting a ls1 motor and 98 up gas tank so im hoping it wont be as much of a pain as ive heard.


I also need to find the pcm? that controls the cluster so if anyone has one ill take it off you hands

 

Ok im a bit confused after reading threw that post maybe its because its late and im not fully grasping it.

So you took the control side of a 4th gen box that hooks to the 4th gen HVAC controls and grafted it too the 3rdgen side that mounts too the car?

OK that makes sense then for some reason when i was reading your post it sounded like you took the 3rd gen box and grafted it to a 4th gen piece that mounted to the car...and i was like whats the point in that??! lol.

HVAC controls are the same between LS1 and v6 cars right? because v6 camaro's are the only ones i can find in junkyards around here.

Physical mounting and HVAC are the only things im really going to be able to do till i get the serialdata box. guess i could wire the headlights up too but that seems pretty simple.

 

ok another HVAC question i was giving the controls a good look today and i was thinking surely there must be a easier way then having the cut my heater box up... so i did a little searching on here and found one post about a piece out of a Astro Van Hvac system that would connect to the 3rdgen piece and provide the proper twist movment anyone know anything more about this?!

I thought the same thing till I got into it. I got the parking lights, driving lights, instrument panel lights, and dome light to work as they should but I can't dim the instrument panel lights, but who cares.

 

I got all of mine working. My ac switch panel all works, headlight switch, dimmer dims all lights in dash, including center console light, glovebox light, ac panel lighting, headlight switch lighting and gauges.
