Seat re upholstry

How hard is it to re-upholster seats? Front and rear. Also my seat adjuster sticks a lot of times. How would you fix that?

If you have a GTA I suggest saving yourself some trouble and getting the upholstery kit from Hawks. Take the kit to a shop where they can build up the padding a bit to make them nice and snug. Your seats will then look factory new.

As for the adjuster sticking, not sure what you mean but maybe you could spray the tracks really good with WD-40 when the seats are out?

It's not too bad we sell the upholstery kits here also. The seat covers are held in with small metal hooks called hog rings. You will need some replacement hog rings, and a pair of hog ring pliers to reattach the new seat covers onto the metal bars in the foam with.

You can use a little silicone spray on the foam to help pull the new covers over the seat backs, once the covers are on, you can beat out any wrinkles with the palm of your hand and pull any remaining material into place.

On the seat adjuster, you may want to put a little white lithum grease on the mechanism to free it up.

Here's a link to our Pontiac Firebird Interior

Re: Seat re upholstry

Do the seat cover sets that you mention come in the 91 Trans Am tan or saddle color? I think there is a slight change in color when the fourth gen cars began.

Re: Seat re upholstry

I am interested in the Hampton Vinyl. My only concerns are that they match the leather that is already in my 91TAm and that the vinyl doesnt stick so much in the summertime. I am prepared to pay for vinyl swatches to be sent to me in Australia. How does that sound?

Re: Seat re upholstry

Why does everyone use wd-40 as a grease? It actually cleans grease off of metal. It is a good short term lubricant, but should only be used to free the part once you have it moving you need grease or the problem will worsen the next time.

I think that is one of the worse problems with door hinges every one uses wd-40 and over time cleans all the grease out of the hinge joint. Get some spary litium grease It will save you a lot of hassle in the future.

Yeah you have a good point there. I mainly suggesting the WD-40 to free the tracks if they were a little rusty. You're right though, white lithium is thicker and lasts longer.

Re: Seat re upholstry

... what i meant about the seat sticking is when you pull the handle to let the seat lean forward it will work. But when you try to put the seat back, it wont click into place therefore the seat is just sitting there not locked

What's with all this vinyl and "leather-like" crap? I've been looking at seats and re upholstry kind of stuff and it sucks trying to find real leather..

I redid the inside of my car and got rid of the shiny leather.I replaced mine with Hampton vinyl,it's very nice material, believe me I do allot of shows,I judge shows it's nice,it looks just like what all the new cars come with.

It's not shiny and soft to the touch,it's a great alternative way to save money on genuine leather.

I'm a pretty picky guy,I wouldn't steer you guys wrong.

Hey Yankeecarman...

You have a pm on cf.org mate

1A Tony...I'm in Melbourne Australia as well. Will see what Yankeecarman's thoughts on the swatches are and you may have 2 orders..

My car is an 88 GTA with ultima seats and split rear. Looking at the Hampton vinyl as well.

I noticed that your site lists the GTA seats as made to order. Is there much of a lead time?

Cheers

It takes about 2-3 weeks for the upholstery shop to stitch them up.Probably about 15 days to ship to Austrailia. There would be a ship fee for the covers down there.I can send you free material samples, just PM me with your full address and email.

Re: Seat re upholstry

Hey Tony, I need to re upholster my front seats in my '85 Camaro z28, I have the black vinyl seats, but I really don't like vinyl, and would prefer cloth. Is this what I need? http://www.1aauto.com/1A/SeatUpholst...SU00238/485414 Will these still match my door panels?

BTW, is shipping always free on those, or is that some special deal?

HI, If the front seats are 1 piece seats with no removable headrests than yes these are for your application.

Do you have a rear seat still in the car? Just wanted to ask because if it's vinyl then the fabrics will not match. This kit is for the front seats only.

If your concerned about the fabric matching the door panels,PM me with your full ship address,ph# & email, and I'll send you a free sample of the material so that you can see how it would look in your car.

We offer free shipping on every product we carry, with no hidden shipping charges.Free shipping, means free shipping.

No I don't have a back seat anymore, so I don't have to worry about trying to match anything to that.
That does sound like the kit I need.
I'll send that PM soon about the material sample.
Good deal with the shipping!

Hey guys, don't forget about birdsandbowties.com (thecovergirl). Although I am booked through the second week in September, I do very nice work as you can see if you visit our site under "Upholstery Work". I can get any of the fabrics you want.

Thanks on the offer to send the samples....Seeing as though you've sent some to Yankeecarman in Melbourne it will probably be faster for me to have a look at those when they arrive.

Thanks Again!
