Ok I was getting really frustrated when I had to keep holding onto my drink while I was driving. So I went to Wal-Mart and bought a 4-Pack of Drink Holders, they usually hang from like your window but I cut that piece off and just screwed them to the center console. They work great and for about $3.00 you get 4 of them and I only used two.

Check out the pics, they hold up to a 1 Liter bottle just fine and it dont tip over when you make a corner or anything.

No there is plenty of leg room in the passenger seat. Nobody has complained about them yet Lol. Their usually like, Whoa you got cup holders in here?? Niceee! Lol

I just put two screw to hold them up for support and they stay in place. The one down by the center console gets smashed a little bit when I move the seat forward but it is fine when I move the seat back.

I have a set of those just laying in my garage and never even thought of putting it in my car, I have to do it now. Awesome Idea, whoever thought, a cup holder could hold cups?

I have come up with a better idea, I purchased a cup holder from a SSR, it folds up. I mounted it on the P/S of the console by the radio pod. works great and if you don't know what it is you would never think it was a cup holder. Just an idea.

haha i baught one of those too, and absolutely hated it. it got in the way, it didnt look good, just a pain. but i thought about cuttin off that long bottom half off and screwing it flush to the dash (like to the left of the dash emblem) but couldnt bring myself to do it yet. i think im goin to try that other guys idea

I bought one of those (exactly like that) from an Online RV place (don't have it Bookmared, but found it on eBay).

Pretty cool, but I put it on the drivers side & with a drink in it, it was always in the way. So I took it off but never have bothered to put it back in. I keep hoping for a 98+ 4th gen console with the cupholders built-in.

i bought one of those also. i hated it.. used it for about a minute. that is about how long it took for my drink to topple over and spill all over the passengers seat.

Having a TA, I did the same. Couldn't hold out for the 98+, but I'm just happy to have ONE cupholder on the 94 console I grabbed.

I see what you are saying, they are rivets and I wanted to make sure that it would hold a large drink.

I did something different. There is an article in the tech section of this website that goes into more detail but basically i took my ashtray and shift indicator out, cut the ashtray off,made a plexiglass plate the same shape, took two vegetable cans and cut them down and mounted them in the plexiglass plate, sealed the seams with jb weld, sprayed it with textured truck bed liner. then spray pained it flat black. they look good but now i cant get my shift indicator to work right. maybe completely unrelated but i dont know.

I've wanted to do that for a while but wasn't sure what to do with the plastic strip that covers the shifter opening. It would run right into the cup holders or wouldn't cover the opening if it was cut off to clear.

id like to point out that there is a cupholder design for our cars, it replaces the lid on the center console and adds a cup holder... its definatly more expensive than $3-$5 though...

Only gives me one, but I don't ride around with 20 drink-spilling fools in the car anyway - I cut out the center console area where the clock used to be mounted in the 83/84 Camaros and inserted a poker table cupholder like this:

I don't like the stainless steel one, but I do like the poker table idea. I also like that console lid with the cupholder in it I may buy one since my middle console cover is absolutely ruined.

Thats a great idea! I was thinking of just like making a custom center console out of wood or something, adding a cupholder, and covering it with carpet or fabric etc. Next time I'm at Walmart I'll check that out for sure!

What do you got goin on in your ashtray?? I was thinking of putting my switches in mine. Like James Bond. Flip the ashtray up and flip the exhaust cut out switch or fan override, or fog lights. Let me know please! I don't want ot have to make a new center console.

Stupid Wal-Mart in Windsor doesn't carry single cup holders, before I found out I could hold it in place between my seat and the door, I tried holding it between my legs, and of course I drive stick, so I looked like some retarded bird trying to hold up a drink and use all four limbs for something else at once

Not too hard. I took a piece of plastic from a black index card file (Office Depot) and cut it to size to fit inside the ashtray hole. I then took some popsicle sticks, split them and glued together to double the thickness, cut to length, and epoxied them longways inside the tray hole to support the plastic piece, then drilled the holes for the switches and installed. I did all this because I couldn't find any switches that I liked that would fit inside the ashtray insert itself, since it has the ledges to extinguish your smoke, it limits the width available for placement of the switches - but with the actual ashtray insert removed, there's alot more room.

I used those switches because they were available in four led colors so I'd have a different color light on each switch, and mainly because they were low profile and would fit inside under the ashtray lid without being mounted so deeply inside that they were difficult to reach.

I have two connected at the moment, one for manual fan on, and one for manual torque converter lockup on. Not sure what the other two will get.

I've thought about doing the wood and cloth thing, not only because I could make the cupholder, but because those center consoles get SO DANG hot here in texas, I have to keep a towel over mine anyway.

On my last Camaro, I went to a junk yard, got a scrap of cloth that matched the seat pattern in my 85, cut it out to fit the console, and glued it into place. Worked great, but I didn't fabricate the cupholders at all. I went with the flip down version that somebody else showed earlier in the thread

I was tired of the wedge cupholder, largly due to the fact it's uncomfortable for passengers, I modified a cheap window cupholder. I cut the rear flap off amd used it to reinforce the cupholderwhile mounted. I mounted it under the dash using one of the holes that hold the dash cap on.

LOLOL. Definition chug champ huh. But I feel you, I was almost in tears when I had to drill into my console. Luckily im not handicapped with tools and can actually fabricate many things, so I didn't eff it up. I honestly do not regret it, and I think it looks pretty good as well. But that's just me
