Rear view mirror help. Nothing is working.

Well my mirror fell off a few years ago. And i have tried to put it on a few different times with different kinds of products. First i tried the glue with activator from a parts store. Lasted about a week then fell off again. Next there was this double sided foam tape type stuff and it too lasted about a week then fell off. And just yesterday i tried the glue and activator stuff again but this time i got this bar to put a little bit of pressure on it and left it over night to try and make sure it was gonna stay. I went outside this morning and took the bar off. As soon as i touched the bracket attached to the window it just fell right off. I'm really about to give up on having a rear view mirror.

And yes my glass was clean. I scraped it with a razor blade and then took some rubbing alcohol to it. Does anyone know of any tricks to make my mirror stay up and some excellent product that would work?

I don't think it would matter but i bought a new mirror the first time i tried to reinstall it. I think the old one had a metal mounting bracket and the new one i bought looks the same as the old but it has a plastic mounting bracket.

Please help...

i had a similar problem years ago. i actually ended up cracking my windshield trying to fix it..lol after i got it replaced i tried the permatex glue from autozone and held the bracket to the windshield for about 15 minutes, and its held up fine ever since.

Ironically, the same thing just happened to me. Got to love the summer heat. Mine is original and has glass frosting, so this gives me a good excuse to find a better condition one. Thanks for answering my question as well! I was just getting ready to post the same.

Yep, I think alot of my problems had to do with the summer heat. I live in Georgia so the summers here are pretty scorching. I think if i would have repaired it in the winter it would have worked a little better but as soon as summer came along i think it would have fell off.

When you glue the little metal bracket on.Give it a day or two before putting the mirror on it.You should be fine then.

Mine doesnt have a metal bracket. I had to buy a new mirror and it came with a plastic bracket.

Well someone brought me over some super glue that is supposed to be really good so i think im gonna try it first b4 i try something else. my fingers are crossed.

well i tried some super glue to see if it would work and it seems like its holding really strong. Even when i was adjusting my mirror it didn't fall We'll see how long it last though.

Well about 2 weeks later just driving down the road and wouldnt you know it. The mirror fell off. All i could do was laugh. I think im just gonna go to pull-a-part and find an original mirror with a metal bracket and try the mirror glue again.
