Go Custom or Factory??
Go Custom or Factory??
I have a few things that could use some updating in the vehicle and was wondering what you guys think.. Go custom or restore to factory?? By this I mean things like seats, steering wheel, etc.. Should I get a factory steering wheel or go for something aftermarket? Should I get some colored seats like matching the body or just repair factory seats..

I voted restore to stock...i don't know but to me...it has to look stock, from the factory down to the style of taillights.
Re: Go Custom or Factory??
It's an 87 IROC.. I was the seats are in "ok" shape.. i was thinking of having them replaced with racing seats or just use fabric with yellow inserts and such but then idk.. part of me thinks these cars look so much better with the stock look..

Facing the same dilemma. Except I have a mid eighties car with unique electronics that make it that much more expensive. I say update things you can switch back and put those parts in a box for the next guy.

Unless it is a low mileage...well optioned....Something else special about it, you'll be happier if it fits YOU. not GMs idea from 20 years ago.

Re: Go Custom or Factory??
I agree with Stephen. There seems to be nothing special about it, so would it be worth it to put more money to get old stuff then new stuff?
But I don't like the word "Custom" cause when people say custom they blow it out of the water and at the end it doesn't even have the same body style as the car they started.

Re: Go Custom or Factory??
Check out this thread. The OP restored his interior with NOS pieces and added a few "custom" touches. Might give you some ideas.

I'm actually facing the same problem. I need to replace my headliner and see if i can find a complete set of 4th gen seats or reupholster my front ones. Either way you choose, you should do what you want and what you find comfortable, visually and physically.

I vote custom for the interior. I plan on replacing the fabric/cloth on the doors, sailpanels and headliner (when I get one) with black suede.

Re: Go Custom or Factory??
I tried to get mine back to "all original" but had to settle for "authentic" and replace things like the seats (4th Gen much better), exhaust (Magnaflow 3" SS), throttle body (Holley) and MAF (Granatelli). Other than that it's all authentic Camaro. With those few improvements I think the car is "better than original" to a certain extent.

Re: Go Custom or Factory??
I personally think there are far too many modded cars out there. It is refreshing to see a nice, original looking car. I think lowering and subtle engine mods (including MAF and Throttle body replacements) are perfectly acceptable. Oh and also upgrading brakes as ours are rubbish stock

Re: Go Custom or Factory??
I have a little of both - custom seats, steering wheel (carbon fibre), door panels, gauges and console lid. Rest of the interior is stock.https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/show...7&goto=newpost

Yeah, it has some nice features like having the A/C controls up on the pods and the headlights shut off when I pull the key. But the stereo sucks and everyone wants big bucks for parts that don't work when you get them.
