Locked keys inside

wasn't sure where to post this but i locked my keys in my 91 rs. stupid mistake, i have a duplicate ignition key, but thats it. how hard is it to get the doors unlocked on a third gen? will the standard coat hanger trick work??? my weatherstripping is hard as a rock, it will take some time to peel it back to get anything between there. its a t-top car but i cant get anything off. its been a bad night i got pulled over for expired plates too (can't afford $120 to renew them).

$120 for plates? My registration renewal is like $54!

I've pulled the glass out, slipped my wallet in between to hold it open, stuck my cane (i'm partially disabled) down in & used it to slide the lever over to unlock the door. Our door locks are a joke.

Re: Locked keys inside

yeah it is ridiculous. my plates expired months ago and i didn't have the money then to renew them and now they want me to re-register my car! it would have been $90 to just get the sticker but oh well lol.

i was out with aaron tonight, we were cruising the strip, had a ton of fun. there were four thirdgens that were all cruising in a pack. two irocs and my rs and aarons rs. he got some on-board footage that i can post up tomorrow.

yeah, the door locks are a joke, but its like that on most cars, its very easy to break in!

Re: Locked keys inside

Happened to me twice, this works like a charm. Pry the glass away from the car a little and get something or some one to hold it now unscrew you antenna and use the larger end to push the t-top lever open. It takes some patience and a steady hand but soon you'll have the t-top unlocked then just lift it off lean over and unlock it. Tell me how this works if you try it .

Everything we need to break into our cars comes with them give or take a screw driver.

Re: Locked keys inside

A long thin rod able to reach the hatch switch on the console. Then just crawl in from the back & unlock the door.

Or if its (rod) long enough to reach the unlock button on the other door. You can also unlock them this way.Ive succeded with both methods.

If your locks & hatch are manual.Carry a spare door key in your wallet.

Re: Locked keys inside

Yep the locks on these cars are a joke. Once you get in buy a magnet key clip. put the key in and put the magnet under your chassis out of sight so if this happens you know the car always have a key. Reminder on that though make sure no one sees you doing that or your car will be gone LOL. and yes :P key in the wallet good idea to.

Re: Locked keys inside

another way to get in use a drill and drill out the lock cylinder vola in. But not recommended. If you aren't planning on buying new lock and cylinders for the whole car. I did this once for the reason the actual cylinder was broke and stuck in lock didn't know when i locked the door from inside. So key didn't work.

Re: Locked keys inside

When this happened to me, I went to auto zone, bought a steel brake line, curved it in just a little bit at the top to form a hook like area.

then I used my wallet like Stephen did, and used the brake like to push the switch to the unlock position on the same door I slipped the line through. Give it a shot. With patience, you'll get it.

Oh another thought. I was tired when i wrote the first post. You can call your local police department they have a slim jim. I know the sheriff's dept here does it might just give them a call and ask . they do it free of charge.

I locked my keys once or twice also. I haven't since I got the keyless entry But I've used the ttop idea, just stick a hard wire (antenna, coat hanger etc) and push on the ttop handle to "unlock it" and then take the top off. I've also gotten a coat hanger and made a small bend at the tip and try to push the "unlock" button... I also started carrying a spare key in my wallet and one under the car. I don't recommend the magnetic boxes because they fall off easily... good luck!

Re: Locked keys inside

Sorry, I guess I never understood posting on public forum how to break into our cars. It's easy enough as it is without spelling it out for a ten year old to do it.
