Painting Vinyl Plastic Panels
Hey all,
I'm dying (no pun intended) to paint the interior plastic panels in my car. As of now, they are decent but i'm doing a complete interior restoration/upgrade (all new GM buttons, repro shifter plate, recovered leather shifter ball, 4th gen custom black/beige leather power seats from hawks with matching door panels, hush mat all over the floor-trunk-door-etc, POR-15ing the whole underbody and inside if there's rust but i doubt it...)
I just need to know where I can get the right color paint for these plastic panels and how would I go about painting them. It's the "LIGHT SADDLE TAN" as labeled by hawks. I've purchased their headliner and it was an exact match.
Thanks!

I've found that SEM interior paints are the best available in spraycans. They have a boatload of colors, so your best bet is to just find the one that's the closest match, then use it to paint ALL of the plastic panels so that they all match each other.
A better, but much more expensive, solution is to have a local body shop or parts store mix the paint based on the original GM paint code. This will provide you with as close of a match as you're ever going to find, but all you're going to get is a quart of automotive paint. If you don't have the equipment you need to spray it yourself, you'll need to have a body shop do it. Obviously this is going to be a much more expensive path.

Ok I checked out SEM and they have a billion colors.. I'll go check out a local store.. How would I paint my panels? Just buy the can and spray it all on? Or is there some sort of prep work involved?

I painted my interior with duplicolor vinyl paint. I wiped all the panels down with acetone, sprayed 2 coats on each panel and after it dried I put 3 coat's of clear on it and they have held up great. You should probably scrub each panel with dish soap and water and then wipe it down with acetone or the paint wont stick if there's like armorall or any dirt on the panels. SEM paint should work out good. Here's a thread I started that shows before and after pic's of when I painted mine.
