Camaro vs. Firebird seats

Looking to recover the seats in my son's '87 Camaro. We have the door panels and back seats out of an '88 Firebird and he likes the upholstery pattern better than that of his original Camaro seats. Is there any difference in style or shape between the Camaro and Firebird front seats (deluxe with head-rests) or is it just the stitching pattern in the fabric? IE: He would like to get an upholstery kit from Hawks or Eckler's for the Firebird pattern, but put them on his Camaro seats. Look forward to your help.

Re: Camaro vs. Firebird seats

you know, i'm not sure zapskate understands the question. bolt right on? your talking about re-upholstering the seat that is a camaro base with a firebird cover? No, i dont think that will work because if you look at the seats they are completely different IIRC. I'd wait for a senior member to chime in before making any final decisions.

Re: Camaro vs. Firebird seats

Pictures of the seats in question would help a lot. Of course there are a ton of different seats for both cars and there are a couple that are close but most of them are quite different. For the most part I'm going to say, no way. The shape of the seats and the contours of the foam are too different in most cases for the covers to be interchangeable.

Re: Camaro vs. Firebird seats

Thanks all, I appreciate the help. My son is in the Air Force, and I'm trying to get it fixed up for him before he goes to his next duty station.

Re: Camaro vs. Firebird seats

I would suggest just getting some 4th gen seats in good shape. They do bolt right in and it might be cheaper than recovering. The other option is to find some Camaro seats from the jy and getting the covers specifically for those seats.

4th generation Camaro seats are MUCH better looking than third generation Camaro seats. They are also plentiful and relatively cheap.

Re: Camaro vs. Firebird seats

Thanks guys, I have already looked at the two wrecked 4th gen cars in the area. Remember, this is the outback really rural, so not many cars to choose from local and a long way to ship to. May have some luck in Spokane where my daughter goes to school. Have to go out there in a week to move her back home. May be room left for some seats if I found them :-)

I just switched out the front and rear stock seats from a 88 camaro to my 84 trans am along with the carpet and panels and everything fit fine except on panel, So all I know is from my personal (and limited) experience! use what you can! thanks!

completely agree. I got leather 4th gen seats for my ripped 3rd gen leather ones becasue i was quoted above 400 per seat and thats more than i paid for all four 4th gen ones.

I don't think many people seem to "get it" when it comes to the price of seats. Sure you can find the occasional junk yard deal on seats but they are in varying degrees of deterioration. Some may only have minor rips and that might be OK for some people. I'd expect to pay around $250 or so for sets like that. Sets that are in true "mint" condition will cost you far more. Upwards of $900 or so if they've been re-stuffed and recovered. Hell the nice leather seat covers alone can cost that.

Quality like-new seats are expensive.

You just proved my point that you didn't understand the question. The OP wanted to know if he could recover a camaro seat with a firebird cover. The seats themselves will bolt in and yes, your right about the other items as well, but that didnt answer the question at all.

That being said, did you post your reply without reading the rest of the thread?
